i have severe brainfog since i ve been on flagyl in december for 10 days. and since i never had brainfog before and it lasts since 2 months now I am really starting to worry - is a staying sideeffect or a new lyme symptom?
i was on flagyl iv 1000 mg plus 1000mg oral. I know that flagyl is dangerous and that this is a high dose, but my llmd said he has never seen this happen. he is also unsure if its lymesymptom or sideeffect. has anybody experienced something similiar or knows what has helped people? i am on ceftin (doesnt seem to help) now and will add rifampin next month.

Well, you learn something new every day. I didn't know that flagyl was given IV. And wow, what high dosages, both IV and oral.
A couple of thoughts. Brainfog can be either a lyme symptom and/or a result of treatment. Before ever knowing I had lyme, I had plenty of brain fog for years (thought it was CFS).
Also, I've experienced increased brain fog during antibiotic and flagyl treatment. Sometimes taking a break from the treatment, or pulsing, and detoxing help.
One thing that improved the brain fog for me was taking cholestyramine. It binds with neurotoxins and helps eliminate them. This helped especially during the first year of treatment when I had a lot of die-off.
Take care.

It has been shown that the drugs
in that family can cause encephalopathy.

yeah, maybe I have to consider cholestyramine. although I wasnt too convinced about the toxin-theory so far (no proof, only shoemakers theory).
Nobody experienced something similar with flagyl on this board?

my english insufficiently. briefly i used flagyl and then my brain fog and fatigue quite increased. perhaps it caused depression or herx.

A neurotoxin binder can help brainfog symptoms for me. I think when the lyme is killed off then you need to bind the dead neurotoxins or they just keep recirculating around causing symptoms. I use CSM but also natural supplements like Pectasol Chelation Complex.
