Okay bare with me on this, but Ive been dealing with a couple different issues that have to do with being too acidic.
Sorry guys...but vaginitis and also bladder infections where the urine comes back very acidic.
Does your whole body become acidic or can some parts be but not others?
And how do you fix this?

Hi Lisa,
I'm no expert about the validity or not of alkaline v acidic urine, but on the advice of my doctor, I have been trying to be alkaline for a long time now and can tell you some of the recommended ways of becoming alkaline.
1-Diet. Eat a green diet. Veggies are very alkaline.
2-Get plenty of minerals including calcium.
3-Avoid sugar, high fat foods.
I just ran a quick search and here is an informative website.
Lots of info about this on the net. Not everyone believes in it.
I personally struggle with acidic urine. And I eat almost 100% vegetarian.
I have a very severe form of Rheum. Arthritis and believe it is keeping me acidic.

I too am acidic. I am sure many of us who are chronic are, and it is an indicator of chronic illness. Diet can affect this tremendously, and green veggies for the most part are very alkaline.
I have a few sheets that list preferred alkaline foods if you want some of that information. My LLMD also recommends Tri-Salts and a baking soda mixture to help keep the acidity at better levels.
I have the same "problems" you do.......are you using pH paper to keep it checked?

My husband's LLMD also recommended Tri-Salts. He started with one per day, and worked up to 3. This, along with some dietary changes, seems to be producing good results.
If you use the pH paper on your saliva, I believe the recommendation is to do it at least 2 hours after you've eaten. Also swallow your saliva a couple of times before testing.

Basically anybody with a chronic illness is too acidic. If our bodies were alkaline we wouldnt be sick or at least as sick. I just recently started following a strict Alkaline diet and drink lots of greens to try and get my ph level back up. It is a very challenging thing to do and can take a lot of self discipline and some time but if alkalinity is achieved many symptoms will dissapear from what ive been told and read. Im not sure how true that is but im giving it a shot. ill let you know it goes.

i dont know anything about this but find it interesting. can anyone say which symptoms have improved by reducing acid?
also, do you have to cut out all acidic foods? does it help to reduce acidity or is it an all or nothing thing?
does it affect your meds, your absorption, or what?

Although it might seem that citrus fruits would have an acidifying effect on the body, the citric acid they contain actually has an alkalinizing effect in the system.
These foods leave an alkaline ash but have an acidifying effect on the body.

That is the problem with the food available to us today. Most of it is fake food. By fake, I mean processed. Sometimes created in a lab like fruit rollups. Not a good source of fruit.
Fake food has dyes, additives and preservatives that are killing us.
Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables is a form of healing in itself. Eating them organically so you do not add pesticides to your toxic load is even better. But just switching to vegetables from so much fake food will make a difference in how you feel.
I recently was tested for my genetic ability to detox. I am deficient in several areas and one of the solutions is to eat lots of cruciferous vegetables. Amazing.
I also drink a glass of fresh vegetable juice every day and recently my husband has started doing the same.
My massage therapist was raving the other day about how good my skin looks since I started the juice. Because of the improvement in my skin, she has ordered a juicer and the juicing book I use "Juicing for Life". It is a really good book.
For a few months after I began ammoxy, biaxin and prevacid for H. Pylori, I was alkaline. It may have been the prevacid? Anyway, I am barely green now. I feel good though and I am eating mostly green, so I just figure my urine is acid because I am dumping toxins.
I don't know if I am right about that or not, but I don't know anything else I can do about it.

My symptoms improved overnight when I learned about eating more alkaline.
My biggest thing was drinking coffee all day. Now I drink one cup in the a.m. I buy organic beans (make 1/2 decaf) and cold brew it to remove most of the acid. The very day I did this my vulvodynia (pain in the vulva) went from a 9 to a 3. In ONE day eliminating one acidic product.
I can definately tell the difference when I'm bad. Not only do I feel sicker but my body aches more.
The thing that helps me the very most is juicing. I juice cucumbers, bok choy, swiss chard, carrots, celery and beets. Spinach and parsley are good, too but tough on the juicer (hubby and I are almost wearing out our second juicer in two years - the first was Lalane and now we have a Champion)
I also make fruit smoothies with Organic Plain Yogurt and berries and I add a very alkaline "greens" powder.

I'm looking at a Jack Lalane because I am wearing out my Juiceman. You didn't like your Lalane? Do you like your Champion better?

Luvs, I was a vegetarian for years. I cheat now but still dont eat meat very often. I actually am one of those weird people that prefer an artichoke to a hamburger.
But I am bad with fats. I use a stick of butter a day easy. I have elimated pop from my diet, which was harder than quitting drinking or smoking for me.
So its frustrating to still be so acidic.
Mojo & Luvs, I am glad you brought up the juicers. I just bought one. I had read a post earlier about the benefits... so thats my next adventure I guess.

how is it then that kombucha is supposed to balance the ph. isnt it very acidic..
i drink it everyday but it says it balances the ph on the bottle.
does anyone know any info on this?

Luv: The Jack Lalaine was fine. My sister has one and she loves it.
My husband and I juice quite a bit and some of the veggies are hard on the juicer.
After a year of the Jack Lalaine we wanted a new one - we were really straining the motor. So we got the Champion. Noticed that the pulp was much dryer and we got more juice.
Now a year into the Champion we are noticing it's not working as well. We probably need a more commercial machine.
My sister has had her Jack Lalaine for over a year and no sign of wear and tear yet. We are just tough on juicers!
