I was on 3 grams of Ammoxill for 6 weeks when one day I broke out in a rash all over my body. I have taken amoxill many times before with no rash. I had no other symptoms.

I went off of ammoxill and it took another 3 weeks for the rash to go away. I rested my body and went back on the medicine.

Now, two weeks in the rash is back.
My questions...I have never experiened a herx so could this be some strange herx?

Could an allergic reaction appear so late and only be a rash even without other symptoms? Or could this be my body's way of releasing the toxins?

I would sure appreciate some help before I scratch my skin off. [confused]

Oh it could be a reaction. You can be on an abx for a day weeks months and start to react. I would stop the med and call the doctor.

That happend to me in Dec after being on an abx for over 2 months..

I get rashes from the Lyme and sometimes as a herx.

It could also be an allergic reaction.

I'd take some Benadryl ..... if you have improvement, then it's most likely an allergic reaction (though some find Benadryl helps with herx symptoms).

I'd call your LLMD tomorrow. You want to let them decide what a reaction is. It's good to get opinions here, but in the end, something like this warrants a call to your LLMD.

The last time this happened my LLMD shrugged it off and said it was a "pop" rash because it took so long to go away.

He thought that the antibiotic should be out of my system quicker than the rash left. Any other thoughts would be helpful.

I will call him tomorrow but I am seriously thinking herx or toxin...although I won't rule out reaction until we speak again.

Hi dbourne,

Is your LLMD's office close by? Maybe you could have your pharmacist look at it, to see if it is hives. Then you could tell your doc what the pharmacist saw.

If it's hives--that's real important to know because it could be an allergic reaction.

I googled ammoxill and amoxil and got nothing. Do you mean amoxicillin?

Here's a thought. My husband get these rashes with his lyme treatment, and we went to several doctor asking what the rash was, and they all gave us different creams and stuff, but nothing worked.

The next time we saw our llmd, we showed him my husband's rashes, and he just said, "oh, yea, that is from yeast."

My husband took a week of diflucan and it went away. now we know to watch out for that, and take a diflucan when it surfaces.

Hope that helps.

Mary

Hi lymewreck36,

Good story. I'm glad you shared it. I'll have to keep that in mind, just in case ...

Thanks for all the help. I was on Amoxicillin, sorry to not spell it out correctly. My Dr pulled me off that antibiotic and we are going to try Doxy. I hope it helps. I have only been infected since 05 and have lots of Nuro symptoms. I just want to get healthy so that we can try for another child someday.
