Since I started taking levaquin, I developed ringing in my ears and I am worried I have been floxed.

Since this symptom started I discontinued the levaquin, about a week ago, but the high pitch noise has not stopped.

Did anybody else have this symptom? Or is it from something else?

Ringing in the ears was one of my first lyme symptoms and I still get it now. When I do notice it, it's usually at night when laying in bed.

It seems to go away when I am doing better.

Ive had ringing in my ears for almost four years now, since I started getting ill.

I hope it goes as I progress in treatment.

Savebabe, I had ringing in the ears, and some strange shift of deafness ring yesterday, NOT due to levaquin since I don't take that.

It's part of the cycle, comes and goes, one of the way too many symptoms!

Hi there,

I have a ver loud and disturbing ringing in the ears which did start from Levaquin. I have been off over 2 months and I still have it. Though I'm pretty sure I was floxed. Hopefully it will go away!!! If you find anything that helps, let me know. Scottie

This is indeed NOT a reaction to levaquin.

It is instead a definite symptom of Bb!

I am not sure what being "floxed" has to do with it???

Whenever I have taken levaquin or any of the flouroquinalone type anti-biotics I would have

tendenitis...painfull and should be noticed so that the patient does'nt strain any tendons for fear of rupture or tear.

This is the only levaquin related drug reaction that I have noticed with flouroquinalones personaly.

Maybe you were "floxed too hard or deep or too often....whatever that means?....LOL [confused]

Sorry to hear you have this too (no pun intended!). I have had high pitched ringing in my ears for the past two months or so. It was pretty off and on, and then it started to get louder and more persistent as I ramped up on mino.

So, with doctor's advice, I cut back on the mino to 50mg/day, and the ringing is still present often but bearable, and not noticeable 24/7. I think the mino has helped so I have not wanted to give it up entirely.

I have not taken levaquin, so cannot answer your question on whether it causes ringing in ears. My doc definitely stresses that ringing in ears can be a symptom of the disease itself. So, it can be very difficult to tell apart from that caused by some abx.

I would have to recommend doing whatever your doctor suggested on this one, or if you think it is best, stopping the levaquin.

I had a thread about 5 weeks ago on this, and got a few suggestions, including taking a B-6 supplement. (I took a fairly low-dose B-6 in addition to my daily B-50 vit last week, and I thought it had a nice effect).

I hope you feel better soon and the ear ringing goes away. I started biaxin three weeks ago, and my doc says that hits bart too -- it is certainly hitting something! Best wishes.

Hi All,

Just to make sure it is clear, Levaquin DOES cause ringing in the ears and in many cases it can be long lasting or permenant. Yes, Lyme also causes ringing in the ears but please take it from me, you are silly to assume all the symptoms you have are from the lyme or a herx reaction. I think a good rule of thumb is that if you didn't have ringing in the ears before a specofoc antibiotic and you do now then it's probably the antibiotic. I would also say that Levaquin can be great for many people but if you are having ANY side effects from it then get off of it. I am trying to recover from a toxic reaction to levaquin after being on it for 8 weeks total. Good luck..Scottie
