I was told three time/day, usually shortly after meals.

My little one goes only once a day. I thought that was normal.

Homeopath wants more magnesium in his diet....like 1000mg/day.

Adult amounts are, I think, 400 mg per day.

Anyone know risks of mag this high in a 50 pounder, or had any experience with this? She says reduce amount if diahhrea develops.

My Pedi says once per day.

My daughter has chronic constipation so we talk about this often.

I would hesitate on the 1000 mg.
Magnesium can be used to loosen stools, but how about adressing WHY the stools may be the way they are ?

Many w lyme do need more, IME, though.

I'm no doctor, but that seems like a lot to me. Both the amount of bowel movements she expects and the magnesium.

My children average once a day and they are a comparable age to your child.

I'd be really careful with the magnesium. I just found this--scroll down and check out the recommended amounts for various age ranges.

I apologize if you've posted this elsewhere but does your child have lyme, and this is the reasoning for the additional magnesium? I could understand some additional magnesium, but 9 times the recommended amount would give me pause, especially in a young child.

Good luck--I hope you are able to get some more answers on this. [Smile]

i THINK THAT IS CRAZY!!

SOME people seem to think they should poop every time they set down!! Hownuts is that??

Even every other day is okay I would think.

JUST wanted to add the calcium HAS to stay in ratio to the Mag. SO if giving him like ONE and I would stress ONE mag. take 2 Citrical of other good calcium to go with!!

I would add ONE mag. and see what happens,,bet it changes ALOT in a 50 pounder as you say!!

This will actually take away 'some' pain right with making the nerves and muscles feel goofy, like cement as a previous poster called it!!

It also helps preserve the teeth etc. mining calcium from bones and all!!

Here is a gross but true story,,,I was on bucketfuls of diferent meds built up over my lyme years,,,HAD to quit everything that wasnt pain related!!

previous to quitting,I was always terrible constipated,,,after I quit,,,NOT,,,so moral of story look to meds FIRST when dealing with the constipation issue!!

They CAN goof you up much more than they indicate on those package inserts!!says--just don--

Thanks everyone for such helpful information.

I think it's pretty evident that these mag levels she suggests are too high.

Maybe it would help if I explained the goal.

She feels he has a bad case of parasites. He's been on a tonic for that. It's reducing most, but the ones that remain seem quite resilient to the tonic and are multiplying. We've changed the tonic and she wants to put him on the mag.

She feels his body is not eliminating efficiently enough to remove these parasites. So maybe I just need a good foodstuff or home remedy to increase his output a little more for the time being.

Any thoughts on this?

Everyone has been so helpful with the mag, but now I need another option to kick it up a notch. He is very gaseous...hiney gasses alot.
