DHC is the Discovery Health Channel which I get on DirecTV. Anyone else see it?
The patient was a young married woman who came into the ER.
The first diagnosis was MS because of brain lesions.
The second diagnosis was syphilis from a spinal tap.
Finally, she was diagnosed with Lyme after a BAT test (standard Lyme tests were negative). It was stated that a BAT test detects specific bacteria instead of measuring immune response.
Very, very interesting that steroids were given before Lyme was diagnosed. Just as in my experience, she improved for a brief period (minutes to hours) but then worsened greatly.
The Dr. used the bad reaction to steroids as a part of his Lyme diagnosis.
It's important to note that the patient was sick for several months before any treatment was administered.
Unfortunately, Lyme was trivialized as a simple and easily treatable disease compared to MS and syphilis.
I know it's just a TV show, but this may be the only information that a viewer will ever see about Lyme.

It's a crime is what it is, being trivalized as you stated!!!
I never saw the episode you described.
Before LD dignosis I too improved w/ steriod use for a day, then we are know what happens after that... downward spiral.

I just got notice of it as well. I see it's supposed to air again Sunday March 16th at 9:00 am central time on Discovery Health.
What in the world is this BAT test? I don't believe I've ever heard of it.
The Dr. (a real Dr. by the way according to the DHC website) called Lyme disease "Lyme's disease". That's at least a misdemeanor.
The real crime was that the Dr. made it seem that the problem was solved as soon as he made the diagnosis and prescribed a few pills.
But he did make a diagnosis of Lyme. If a few other drs. make note, it's a big step.

I just posted about my reaction to steroids. i got better for a day, then got worse, with fever, sweats, chills. typical response for someone with an infection.

If this is the episode called "Shattered", check out YouTube.
They have the entire episode on there, in six or so parts.

Yep, I believe that's right- "Shattered" is the title. Thanks for informing it is on YouTube.
I was disappointed, too, in how it was presented in such a nonchallant manner. I wonder how this patient is doing?
I still haven't found much on this test...at least being specific for borrelia. Anyone else?
