my son and husband will be going camping in april, and we have tons of tics here in maryland. besides wearing pants, long sleeve shirt, hat, socks, what can I spray on my family to prevent these bugs from biting? natural or otherwise, I am willing to do both. Jenin

Anything with Deet in it should help. I spray my kids with Off Family bug spray everytime they go outside and we have been lucky so far. Keep the skin covered and do a daily (if not many time a day) body checks even the hair!!! Good luck.

Here's a link to a natural tick remedy that Fin recommended. Her daughter used it in the jungles of Costa Rica. Thanks Fin.
I know everyone says to use deet but I have found out that deet dosent keep ticks off of you very long but it does work well on mosquitoes, fleas, blackfli etc. But Permethrin for on the clothing will keep them off or to sick to bite you .

I was going to mention the Herbal Armor too, but Looking beat me to it. I have no personal experience but remember Fin was very analytical in her posts.
I live next to the National Forest and ride horses in the elements all the time. I'm going to try Herbal Armor this year and will report how well it does.

Jen, something brought to my attention as tick and bug repellent that is better for the skin, besides the deet....
I use bottle of Burt's Bee body lotion add 12 drops of lemon eucalyptus. Shake it up. Use all over the body. Everywhere. Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil is know as a repellent.
I would think you can use any type natural body lotion that is close to natural and unscented and add lemon eucalyptus to repel those nasty critters.
