seriously!
I was feeling unusually bad with Palpatations, shortness or breath, chest pain and severe lower digestive tract issues.

I took 200mg provigil that my doc gave me as samples.

Well I decided to look up provigil because I dont take it too often and wanted to check side effects (mostly the digestive issues) and I noticed that another medication I take Propranolol INTERACT!! Yikes!

I called the pharmacy who was alarmed and said to go to the ER because taking both makes one really strong and more available ( I am guessing Provigil) [tsk]

I called my PCP and they said that I have to ride the provigil out (40 hour half life) and not to take anymore. Nothing I can do. I took ativan, but boy add this on top of Babs symptoms quite bad!!!!!!

I hope you start feeling better. We should all take this as a warning to always look up drug interactions before taking a drug. A quick google search will do it.

I had a pharmacist catch one of these types of interactions once.

I run my meds thru a cross reference periodically-and especially when a new one is added.

melissa, thanks for HEADS-UP on checking out SAMPLES given to us without checking with pharmacist who has list of all your meds/otc pills

Her is the list of meds that interact with Provigil

What other drugs will affect modafinil?
Before using modafinil, tell your doctor if you are using any of the following drugs:

cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune, Gengraf);

propranolol (Inderal);

rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifater);

a sedative such as diazepam (Valium), midazolam (Versed), or triazolam (Halcion);

antifungal antibiotics such as itraconazole (Sporanox) or ketoconazole (Nizoral);

seizure medication such as carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin), or phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton);

antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), nortriptyline (Pamelor), and others; or

an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (Parnate).

what's the interaction between diazepam and provigil? i take both - obviously not at the same time. guess i should ask my pharmacist.

I believe it is the same interaction as mine. Could be wrong. Doesnt matter too much that they are taken seperately, Provigil's half life is 40 hours..

The pharmacist can look it up.

Another alternative to Provigil is Ritalin. Will have to look that one up too

Ah HA. The last two times I took provigil, I felt worse instead of better.

didn't think about taking different meds and supplements now and the inter reaction.

Thanks for the reminding. Sorry, you had to learn the hard way but you know us lyme brains...multi thinking and multi tasking is tricky and can even be dangerous. [Frown]

I checked on the Drugdigest.org site and these 2 medications do not interact.

Where did you find these medications interact?

I believe you, I just wonder why the drugdigest site says they dont.
