so my mother had a terrible bad fall last october with broken bones and such. no head, neck or internal organ injuries though.
she had to get 4-5 blood transfusions while in the ICU because of her injuries.
previous to this she had had rocking vertigo for FOUR years, along with various lyme and babs and yeast symptoms. (She has tested positive for babs.) After a year of treatment for lyme, she had started to see most of her symptoms peel away but the vertigo remained.
then guess what? she woke up after the accident and the vertigo was gone. like, totally effing gone. We thought it was a miracle. Could this horrific hell of a symptom possibly be gone for good?
No such luck.
She got c.diff in the hospital a few months later, and they started giving her flagyl and oral vancomycin to treat it. The C.Dif kept coming back so now she's been on these two abx since january.
well, the vertigo started again in february. it's been building in intensity ever since.
i've read that blood tranfusions are used as a last-ditch treatment for babs. wonder if this was a factor in the lovely respite from her symptoms?
i wonder if the babs just started building again on its own or if the abx caused her to herx. (just read here a few days ago that flagyl has been used in babs treatment recently with success.) i wonder if ototoxicity from the die off is causing the vertigo... i wonder i wonder.
Any thoughts?

cam, i don't know about your question but wanted to alert you to another problem.
blood transfers .... lyme is NOT checked at all or co-infections, except MALARIA, when blood is donated!!!
when i had a hip replacement surgery last year, i donated 2 units of my blood for my operation; i didn't want anyone else's HEALTH problems!!
in the newbie package i sent you, check out about DONATING BLOOD and NOT donating any tissue, bone marrow, eyes, skin, NOTHING!!!! *********************************************

Good issue Betty! It's tricky...
I was taking some immunoglobulin shots & who knows where the blood comes from. They say it's OK but how do you really know?
The same is true vis versa - re: donating blood.
I don't know how it would effect one's health to have a transfusion, though. The Lyme lives in between the cells & in the brain & nervous system (& probably other places).

I would think the blood transfusion probably helped and now she's herxing. Flagyl gets into the brain very well. [good news, bad news]
I hope the vertigo goes away once she's off the meds!! Maybe it will eventually fix it completely.

Hi CamB,
I received blood in the hospital in 1984 after the birth of my daughter and I got sicker after that. I wouldn't want blood today. Just my 2 cents worth.

what i was trying to say was this, i would NOT accept blood transfusions without HOSPITAL HAVING LYME/CO-INFECTION TESTING done first~
i read the heartbreaking story someone wrote on the oprah site where we tried to get her to do lyme program/s. they got LYME FROM HOSPITAL BLOOD TRANSFUSION!
