I know everyone has addressed this at one time or another but I am asking again.

Just started Tetracycline 750 mg twice a day for a total of 1500 mg daily.

I have been on it almost 1 week. My LLMD instructed me to take it either 20 min before food or 1 hour after food and not to lie down for 2 hours after.

First couple of days I was fine, now the nausea is intense. Usually it happens right when I start to eat after the 20 min. Sometimes, it just happens out of the blue.

I have not thrown up and my LLMD said if I did to stop the meds and call him as he believes if you throw up even once you need to reconsider the meds and maybe try another. ( He is a very well reknowned LLMD too).

I tried peppermint tea this morning with a little sugar, helped a little. I also tried saltines.

Any other ideas?

The only thing that KINDA takes the edge off my nausea is Zofran ODT. I prefer the ODT to regular pill form because sometimes I'm so nauseous I can't even think about drinking water to take an anti-nausea pill!

I've never taken Doxy, so I don't know if this would help, but I have pretty severe nausea and this helps take the edge off.

I take it 3 times a day, at a dose of 8 mg, which is the highest dose. I hope you can find some relief!

You need ALOT! of accidophilus and take it many times during the day with that much antibiotics you are taking...

It could also be the lyme, maybe a herx...

The only thing that helps with my nausa is Zofran. Its a perscription drug used for people on chemotherapy. Chamomille tea also helps but only a little. Watch out for adding sugar to your tea.. sugar is really bad when taking lots of antibiotics because it increases your risk of yeast infections. Sugar is also bad for lyme becuse lyme feeds of of it and it makes you feel sicker.

Hope this helps,
Lindsay

I switched to IM bicillin due to oral abx nasuea.

I found these shots to be very effective and they prevent a lot of GI issues.

Well, I'm not a doctor, but I would NEVER take any antibiotics without food. I value the lining of my stomach way too much.

Pharmacy info:

How should I take this medicine? (Back to top)
Take tetracycline tablets or capsules by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Take tetracycline 1 hour before or at least 2 hours after eating. Swallow tablets or capsules whole with a full glass of water; take tablets or capsules in an upright or sitting position. Taking a sip of water first, before taking the tablets or capsules, may help you swallow them. If possible take bedtime doses at least 10 minutes before lying down. It is best to take tetracycline without food, but if it upsets your stomach take it with food. Avoid having dairy products, such as yogurt, milk, or cheese with your medicine; they can reduce the effect of tetracycline.

I took terta the same way you did. felt crummy for the first couple of weeks.

I did take tetra with a few crackers. That seemed to help.

Good luck

Benadryl, an antihistamine, eliminates my nausea (even extreme nausea and throwing up) very quickly.

It works great whether the nausea is caused by abx, bad food, or a stomach virus (unfortunately, I have had all three types of nausea in the last year!)

But it does make many folks sleepy.
