Anyone experience herxing on milk thistle? Everytime I increase, I herx. Since it has antiviral properties could this maybe suggest an underlying virus hiding out?

Thanks,
bf

My gut tells me that it is highly unlikely that milk thistle is causing a herx reaction. It might be that you instead could be having an adverse reaction to the milk thistle in some way.

Sorry, I have no personal experience to share.

I now get a TERRIBLE REACTION from milk thistle.

I used to be able to take it, but once I started ABX and MCS I developed a terrible reaction.

If I take some I wake up in tremendous pain and I get very suicidal. I have dark thoughts and severe brain fog not to mention the PAIN!!!!!

No one could explain why.

Now I just take Welchol to clean the liver and eat well.

It sucks I know. I would stay away from it.

Apparently people with viral Hepatitis use it with good results. That's one reason why I'm wondering if there's a viral component to what's going on in my body. Also the fact that something seems to be holding up my progress on antibiotics.

Everytime I increase, I get all the typical herx signs - stiffer neck, headache, increased chills, etc. and then have a period of feeling just a wee bit better.

Interesting reaction. I'll persevere for a while and see what comes of it.

Thanks for the replies.

Liver is the primary organ of detox, and milk thistle is well known as an herb for the liver.

Might the milk thistle be pushing an already stressed organ, like whipping a tired horse ?

Hi Ralph,

Are you saying that an overly stressed liver might produce the same symptoms as a herx reaction?

brf,

Could be many things. I wouldn't call it a herx. Ask your LLMD, soon.

Wondering , with all the drugs being taken by many, if that is stressing the liver. And then with the addition of the milk thistle, does that try to detox the liver too fast ?

If so, that could feel like a herx, couldn't it ?

Milk thistle helps protect the liver.

How much milk thistle are you on? What would be a normal dose? I take I think 400mg per day.

A naturopathic friend I know from eBay,
warned me that Milk Thistle could make me cry,
and feel sad or emotional. She didn't give a reason why.
But my guess its an effect of stiring up all the toxins.
