I'm heading to Disney with the fam in a few weeks. What should I do about the sun exposure while on Doxy? Any thoughts? Dare I stop it for a week?

When I was on tetracycline (same family of meds) my dr told me to stop 2 days before i left and then start back up when i get back.

Not sure if this works for you just thought I would share my experience.

I got burnt through the car windows with sunscreen on ... I'd talk to your LLMD about whether you can get off it for a week.

Hi X

Switch to minocycline if you can--
Myself I would not stop abx -

It takes several days to weeks for the
Doxi sun effect to go away --

One thing is Do Not Eat any Citrus of Any Type-
Even Tiny amounts of citrus can cause
-- Photo Toxic reaction --Google it -

I know it will be hard to not eat citrus
at DL - but Seriously dont eat any-

Even Lemon in tea can cause bad reaction

Jay's right, I wouldn't stop abx at all.

Doxy never did give me problems with the sun, I'm not sure it affects everyone that way, but I would take precautions.

Wasn't Doxy one of the seven dwarfs? [bonk]

Doxy = Burny

I had to cut it off and start minocycline, but not before it ruined a spring break beach vacation...spend the week huddled under umbrellas, blistered hands wrapped in gauze, wearing stupid floppy hat.

I had only been on it two weeks and had started to feel some improvement in mood swings, depression, and some pain.

It definitely doesn't seem to cause reactions in everyone. I've been in the sun quite a bit on doxy (against doctor's recommendations; I know, not smart), and I've had no problems whatsoever. I'm only on 200mg a day, though, for what that's worth.

I've seen what it can do to some people, though. You definitely do not want to go through that at Disney. Don't take the chance of ruining your vacation. Your best bet is just to talk to your doctor; maybe he can give you an alternative. My LLMD is switching me from Doxy to Azithromycin once summer hits, because he knows I'm planning on active summer, Lyme or not.

Your best bet is probably just to talk to your doctor. This place is a great resource for Lyme itself, but for something like info on a particular drug, no one's going to know better than your LLMD.

Have fun in Disney!

I haven't noticed much of a sun reaction yet. I'll just keep a hat on along with suntan lotion. [Cool]

Been on doxy for almost a year now and have no problems walking around in the sun. Used to take 600mg, now 400mg.
