I know that many of us on here have dealt with candida on some level.... I've had to address it for several years now with fairly limited success. I've just started my wife and I on Candex and we've switched to an anti-candida diet.... HOWEVER, we are both suffering quite a bit (my wife in particular as this is new for her. She acquired it from me it seems. [Frown] )

I would like to hear from people who have successfully conquered (or least beaten back to some extent) their own yeast/candida problems. I want to know specifically what supplements you took, dietary adjustments, ANYTHING that you feel would be of help to us. I've gotten used to feeling not so great most of the time but my wife... for her this is BAD... and I want to help her get well at the same time.

Between her and I we have four young children to raise - no easy task for completely healthy people!! So, any assistance you can provide us would be wonderful.

PS - Any thoughts on the various candida related "e-books" that are being offered for sale online? If you Google candida you will get many sites advertising holistic plans to eliminate candida by following the steps outlined in their books. Seems like sound advice but I'd prefer not to drop $40 on something that is not worthwhile. I've already done a lot of research on my own over the past 3 years about candida... so it's possible that a lot of the information would be old news to me.

thanks!

Sam

Sam,
I've been doing a candida diet for 2 years now. Not as strict now as the candida levels are down.

You don't have to spend a lot of money on stuff.

Crook's book Yeast Connection was good, that was the only book I bought.

Meat and veggies were my mainstay for a long, long time. It was hard but necessary. Just stay away from all sugar including fruit and potatoes.

There are several kinds of antifungals you can take but if you wife is really having a hard time with dieoff she may want to just concentrate on diet for now and add in antifungals later.

Too much dieoff is not a good thing.

I took caprylic acid, garlic, coconut oil, Pau d arco, raw apple cider vinegar, SF722 by Thorne, maybe a couple others but is all I can remember at the moment.

Stick with the diet. It's really hard in the beginning as you crave carbs but it will get better. It was the best thing I could do for the lyme.

Hi Sam

I used to have candida as bad as it gets -

The NO carb diet is Very Important--

The book TS96 suggests is Very Good -
Fallow what the book says -
It has many suggestions of things to eat-

If you eat Any carbs the candida will
just keep going --

You have to starve the yeast -

Once you have been on the no carb diet
for awhile you will start feeling better-
and the Cravings for carbs will go away -

It is Important not to cheat on the diet-
If you cheat its like starting over -

Meds that helped me the most by far
was Nystatin Powder --
The powder is 10 time more effective
than Nystatin Pills --

Your pharmacy will have to order it-
The Nystatin Powder HAS to BE Kept Cold -

If it get warm it is ruined --
Powder is more hassle than the pills
the the effects are worth it -

Difulcan works good but it can be
hard on your liver -

I have tried just about every over
counter meds and herbs -

Oil of Oregano worked Perty Good -
it tastes bad so get the gel caps-

Candida will get into your skin especially
on your feet and hands -
This skin Has to go -

Remove this skin with Salcylic Acid -
Salcylic acid is what is in Wart remover -

Wal Mart has a product called Wart Stick -
Looks like a Chap stick --

Its takes 2 sticks for best treatment -
for 5 days rub the stick into your skin
and cover with socks

Do Not pick at it skin--

After 6 days soak you feet in warm water
and the entire layer of infected skin
will just come off -No pain at all-

You will have nice pink skin now-

Use the stick anywhere you have infected skin
except your face -

You are going to Herx when taking candida meds-
Will last a week or two -
Then you will start feeling better -

I now can eat perty much anything I want
as long as I dont go over board -

Candida can be beaten --Jay--

Hello all, I will mention it again.

When I kill the yeast I cant move. Litterally.

Yesterday I took 1/2 cap of caprilyc acid. I was stuck on the couch for 2 hours. DIdnt have the strength to move!!!

I also get very depressed and everything looks greay and dark and evil in some way.

Does anyone else get like this? Ive tried taking things for the toxins but I never seems to work after I do the killing.

I think Groovy is right about starving it. When I go a whole day with nothng but protein I feel better. In fact I feel better when I dont eat too!

I just cant do the killing. Been having this reaction for years now. ITs very depressing.

I hear about all these people on this board and others that can take supplements to kill the yeast. Yet I cant do that. I have them all

Pau'd'arco
caprylic acid
nystatin.

I also kerx terrible off olive oil. Imagine that.
I feel so doomed

This is the plan I used when I first found out I had systemic yeast. That was BEFORE I found out I had Lyme.

This plan WORKS, if you're tough enough to follow it!!! [Wink]

I have found the best probiotics for me are:

www.theralac.com
www.livingfoodsusa.com [wholefoods probiotics]

DIET, DIET, DIET is the key. Then, be sure to follow the 5 step plan outlined below. It was developed by my naturopath. It works.

Candida diet and elimination:
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/021412.html

http://www.wholeapproach.com/diet/

Lyme symptoms list compared with yeast symptoms
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/021202.html

"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."

Five Steps to Candida Elimination:

1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.

2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]

3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]

4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]

5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

I thought the book ts96 mentioned was helpful

The yeast connection by william crook

it is an older book so your library may even have it.

I have also tried various probotics and doses. What i need can vary from abx to abx and then it depends on how much my gastroparesis is acting up can cause another need for adjustment.

As far as what i eat and what i take unfortunately it has been alot of trial and error that i am still trying to find the perfect combination of things.

I also try to weigh the benifits and risks of anything i add to "my plan".

Hope you find something that helps.

I second Lymetoo's suggestion of the www.wholeapproach.com
site. It is very through and tells you all you need to get goin, maintain and be successful.

crook said something weird. He said that if we cant tolerate small doses of Nystatin then we should take a large dose.

Hello?

I wanna starve it but I feel like im starving myself.

I think that I also crave half and half and dary and this is also feeing the yeast.

Id like to quit the coffe but I think I can only cut back.

ITS SO HARD@!!!!!!!!

On the coffee thing ............. try switching to teeccino. http://www.teeccino.com/

This stuff is great! Comes in several flavors, helps alkalinize your body, gives you a bit of a kick ( ok not as big as caffeine, but some). I sweeten with stevia and use almond milk. YUM!

robi

PS you can buy it by the case on Amazon.com a lot cheaper then it is in the health food store.

Hhhmmmm!!! I love my teechino!! Better than coffee and really good for you too. Creates an alkaline environment in your gut.

I have Crook's Yeast Connection book and it is really good.

I have differed from the rest of you in 2 ways. I can't eat red meat due to my inflammed joints and I do eat fruit.

I no longer have any yeast symptoms nor test positive for it. Tested both blood and stool.

The fruits I eat are low sugar fruits like cherries, blueberries, strawberries. I also eat pineapple, apples, oranges, kiwi, avacado and tomatos. (Nightshade plants are toxic to most people and should be avoided. I'm one of the lucky ones that has no reaction to them)

My theory about fruit is that the health benefits way outway the natural sugars and the fiber and other stuff in the fruit offsets the sugar. For this to work, it is important to eat the fruit whole. Don't juice it or buy fruit juices, jams, etc. Just whole, fresh, organic when possible fruit.

Everything I read says stay away from vinegar if you have yeast, so I don't eat vinegar.

You need to do an inventory of all possible sources of heavy metals, specifically (but not only) mercury, in both you and your wife, and if the sources are significant, take steps to minimize that exposure.

When I eat sugar of any kind even in pinnapple I get a hangover feeling and burning in my feet and musle fatigue.

There is no benefit at all for me.

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

I was told pineapple and oranges were very high in sugar???

Posted by broguearcher (Member # 5905) on :

awesome, awesome advice everyone!!! thanks a ton.

I've noticed that the symptoms are CLEAR for me... if I don't eat the things I'm not supposed to, I feel pretty decent. If I don't eat ANYTHING I might even feel a little better than that!!... I can tell the Candex is definitely doing something to me... when I take it I get some obvious results.

I'm gonna stay strong this time and I'm gonna beat it!!!!

oh yeah forgot this... Lymeherx... pineapples and oranges are not g2g... high in sugars.

Use this site to cross check all the foods you want to eat... you will avoid a lot of sugar this way.

IME w patients, best advice is from "Conquer Candida and Restore Your Immume System" available at amazon, I believe, and know it is available at www.drjacktips.com

Changing the internal terrain is most important and if done well and correctly, the carb avoidance is not too important. I know that is what most say, but not true IME.

beach,

I checked the site and pineapple had 14 grams of sugar per cup. I know its delicious and high in bromlean but I cant handle the sugar.

I think that I have had candida for a long time and now its gotten really bad.

The sad part is the $400 stool test showed no candida. But it did show 0 bifido bacteria.

I just cant handle sugar or mold.... Its like crooks book. I dont have thrush but I have all the symptoms.

I think that what happened is I became sensitized to all the toxins that it produces more so then anything else.

quick question --

how do you know if you have yeast? how do you tell the difference between lyme symptoms and yeast symptoms?

Posted by stymielymie (Member # 10044) on :

no diffence in chronic yeast and lyme symptoms

vfend, vfend and vfend
10 weeks no abx
yeast and mold free diet,
yeast are mold
mold are different from yeast
mushrooms are mold not yeast stay away.
clean tub and shower with bleach

probiotics in chronic yeast does not matter
until the end when yeast and mold are killed.
then probiotics.

this is what put me into remission.
diflcan only kills yeast

There are lots of good suggestions here. For me, this protocol works good when yeast is flaring:

No carbs/sugar, diet really important. Fiber also helps to reduce yeast. ALSO, detox by exercise & sweating. REALLY WORKS. (and helps to kill lyme)

Lots of good quality probiotics. I take a combinations of 2-3 different varieties in a day high count/high strain probiotics, for a total of 70-100 billion per day, and at least 15 strain per capsule. It is good to switch each month to get a good variety of strains.

Types I use:
Iflora, professional (sedona labs) 20 billion-15 strain
Renew Life Ultra Critical Care Probiotic - 50 BILLION-10 strain
Theralac 20 billion - 5 strain
Iflora, YC7 professional probiotic specifically for Vaginal Yeast

In addition to diet and probiotics, I take an antifungal such as FUNGAL DEFENSE, it really worked for me. Its mostly oregano & olive leaf blend. It KILLS yeast.

Or Olive Leaf extract, 500 mx 3 x a day

Oral hygiene since candida starts on the tongue:

Dip my toothbrush in bleach and rinse off with water after brushing my teeth. You can reinfect yourself --the yeast can grow on your TOOTHBRUSH.

Gargle with an antiseptic mouthwash for at LEAST 30 seconds.

Of course if you have a really bad case of systemic yeast you may need a prescription such as nystatin or diflucan to get a good jump in eradication

But the more sugar and carbs you eat, THE MORE YEAST GROWS, no matter what.

Good Luck!
