Just wondering.

I take 1,000 mg. every day~ 7 days a week.

I also take 2,000 mg. of penicillin and 200 mg. of diflucan every day.

Does that sound like a good combo?

I like getting ya'lls opinion.. [Big Grin]

How long have you been taking that much? Herxing hard?

If you're handling it, it's not "too much." I would not want to START on that dosage, that's for sure!

I've been on flagyl for pretty much my whole treatment with an exception of 2 months. So I've been on flagyl for around 8 months in all. I started out with 500 mg. Then for awhile I was pulsing the flagyl.

When I first started taking flagyl I never really had a herx. Then for 2 months I didn't take it (January-March). When I started back, at the end of March, I had the worst herx EVER. It was a little disheartening because I thought I was getting better. I had almost no symptoms. Then I started back on the flagyl and BAM, so I assume I was feeling so much better because the bacteria was in cyst form. Aghh!

Oh well, I'll stay on the flagyl for now. For the last couple weeks I've been feeling better. Still achey, tired, lightheaded at times, but much better than a few weeks ago when I started taking the flagyl again. I felt like death then.

It's rough stuff. I think the maximum dosage is 1500 a day.

You'll make it!!

Hi Lauren,

I'd be very watchful for signs of neuropathy and liver damage.

My older teen was on similar doses of flagyl during early Lyme treatment and ended up with horribly painful neuropathy that doesn't respond to any pain relief tried so far...and this neuropathy hasn't gone away with treatment.

I hope you're having frequent safety blood work to watch your liver enzymes. My husband's enzymes doubled while on similar doses of flagyl...he had to take an antibiotic break until his liver recovered.

Be sure to ask for the package insert when you get a new prescription. You need to know the side effects of what you take.

Good point, hsb. You can get permanent damage from the flagyl if you're not watching for signs of neuropathy and realize it's a side effect not a herx.

What about encephalopathy from this drug? If it can cause a

non-reversible form of this, I just assume keep the cysts...

I've been taking Flagyl for four months. The first month I was on 750 mg/day. The rest of the time I've been on 1500 mg/day. This is rough stuff, but I'm starting to have 1-2 good days a week now. My LLMD requires monthly blood work when perscribing Flagyl.
