I am a classic case of chronic bartonella: positive IGG, neuro symptoms, bart rash lines, owned 4 outdoor cats etc.
My LLMD has been treating me very aggressively, targeting bart with 2 months of levaquin, 3-4 months of rifampin and so far 2 months into avelox. The symptoms are not improving overall, altough I have some good days.
I think LLMD will want to try IM Bicillin next, but he was kinda discouraged during my last visit. He ordered some immune system tests as he seems to suspect something is going on there.
Any opinions or suggestions as to what my next course of action should be? Bicillin? IV Rocephin?

Might want to try this. I have not tried it so i can give any info. Maybe show it to ur dr.
Well is not going to be easy if you hav BLO as I have.
Since june july -IV blood irradiation for bart -with bart frequencies.
July -dec 2007 -doxy rifampin Decmb homepathic formula 10 vials for bart febr -march 15 -6 weeks levaquin -tendons problems ( magnesium shoot made things worst )
My exsp have been worst and bart symtoms gets worst when in Magnesium -3 times have relapsed introducing magnesium .
Back to rifampin since march 15 -to now..up to 1200 mg rifampin and doxy .Did an injection with B12 and magnesium -worst.
Will definitly stop magnesium from now on.
Still bart there.By the way 13 months of Knootweed decoction -for bart also.
Let see what happens after I see my dr next week.

Steelbone: I remember my LLMD mentioned the DeseretBio bart remedy many months ago but they didn't have any available back then. I'll ask about it next time.
Alv: I find magnesium and B12 help my pain and energy so lately I started megadosing on them. In addition to those abx I mentioned I have been on doxy the whole time and at least 4 months of the Bruhner core+bart protocol. What is the IV blood irradiation?

Are you taking the bart meds alone or with other abx?
I take Levaquin with Minocycline so I'm killing Lyme and bart at the same time. If you're using just a bart treatment, maybe that's part of the problem.

Been doing doxy all along in combo with the various babs/bart abx.

Maybe add IM Bicillin in conjunction w/your doxy/Levaquin combo? That's what I'm doing, starting today! Who's your LLMD by the way? I see Dr S.H. in Redwood City, are you seeing Dr S in SF?

We have the same LLMD...he mentioned IM Bicillin so I assume he will be trying that next...maybe it's just borellia and not bart.
Is Levaquin/Doxy/Bicillin helping you?

Aloha,
I also see S.H....smiles...what a wonderful man!
I'm oN Bicillin, Rifampin, Zith, Tindamax & ALinia...
The Rifampin has helped lots...been on since December...a month ago I increased my zith dose, and it HIT bart SO HARD!!!
I am starting to realize, for me that switching meds and herbs more often seems to work better ...and suprise the buggers!!!!thinking of giving Levaquin a try to come from another angle..
see Dr H. in a few weeks..
Bicillin definantly made me herx...but I feel it was more of a Lyme herx...
babs is also a problem for me...
Much Love! smiles and hugs! Fawne

Hey Fawne! Yes, he is a wonderful man. Glad your combo is helping. Rifampin combo knocked me on my butt about 5 weeks in, terrible herxing, but got major improvement. Not eradication, however, so I just switched to Levaquin yesterday! Am a bit frightened about it but feel that it will help. I was on Rifampin for 9.5 months.
I feel that we will get the bart!

Curious, what was your bart igg/igm titer?
I had what I assume were herxes on rifampin, levaquin, zithromax, avelox. After the herx I would usually feel pretty good for a day or two and then BAM...relapse again, sometimes worse then before.

If you are asking me, I've never tested positive for bart. But my doc (Dr S.H.) never orders them for me either, says they aren't reliable since there are so many species. :0

Interesting...he(S.H.) tested me 3 times for bart - every time a higher IGG titer. As far as IM Bicillin, do you have to go to your PCP for that or could my girlfriend inject me? Also, does insurance cover IM Bicillin for Lyme? I have BluecrossCA PPO.
I agree that he is very nice and easy to work with...always open to suggestions.
Thanks!

your girlfriend can learn to inject you, no prob. my husband does mine (although he hates it!). I started going to LLMDs office just to give him a break from it.
Don't know about BC PPO, but have not heard good things overall about BC paying for anything having to do w/Lyme. Maybe you can get it coded differently, ask him about that at your next appt.

Chamade,
About insurance and bicillin. I had BCBS of IL and I had to get the doctor to write a note. I paid for it upfront, but insurance did reimburse me, because of his note. Hiker53

Chamade, well I'm certainly not going to give up or accept bart for life. It's as mean and determined as the lyme bacteria at survival.
In fact Bart might be meaner and stronger? I can't say for sure yet. Bart and I are going a round right now. I'm winning by the way.

IV blood irradiation -is a machine that let your blood to go through a light -that increases your NK cells and you punch the freqencies to kill bart . It helped but is Coslty ,can not afford.$600 a month.
It would ahve been years for me to treat it at my level!
Know a person that did it for 2 years non stop ,1 time a week and now is in maintanance.
But she caught is early and does not have lyme!

In my experience, Bicillin is for targeting Lyme, not Bartonella.
I have Bart and Lyme. I was on Rocephin, Zith and Flagyl, then Zith, Bicillin, and Flagyl. Then we dropped the Flagyl.
I started having more symptoms (even before dropping Flagyl). My LLMD said they sounded like Bart symptoms. So, he gave me BACTRIM DS.
Had about 6 pretty bad days when I started the Bactrim DS, and then I started feeling better and having been feeling better ever since.
I now feel like I am running on 6 cylinders instead of 4. Now, I just need to get up to 8 cylinders....
On a side note, I also have been taking D-Ribose lately. I followed a protocol suggestion in an article about chronic fatigue. Take 5gm 3 times a day for 3 weeks, then 2 gms 2 times a day after that. I think it is really helping also!
My suggestion is Bactrim DS for the Bart (2 per day everyday)

Aloha,
Chamade-
I have HMSA (hawaii)- but it's somehow associated with BC/BS and they paid right away for my Bicillin...no problems:)
I hope you get yours covered!
Also, B-12 shots have really helped me! would consider them if your not already doing them..
