I am a month and a week in of rocephrin I.V. treatments through a power picc line through arm up around down into heart. The arm was a bit sore, and im supposed to get dressing change tuesday. The wound looks ok but im sore through my arm and into my chest. Not severe pain, just sore. Should I get my home nurse over here asap? or is it quite normal for some pain to occour if i slept wrong or something. Just dont want to have a heart attack or worse.

Thx

Up means she was just bumping it back to the top. Threads with responses are sometimes looked at more often than threads without responses. [Smile]

Sorry, I never had a PICC, so I don't have an answer for you either.

A little confused. How long has the arm been sore? -- ever since you got the line put in or is this a recent pain?

I do bandage changes on hubby's PICC myself. With a new line hubby usually just has a little pain for a couple of days. Sometimes when he raises his arm it is sore on the underside of his arm.

Hubby has had lines get pulled out overnight in his sleep a couple of times -- once in the hospital.

Would suggest calling the nurse just to be safe.

Checked with my sister who is a RN in an ER. The soreness is normal.

Just keep an eye on it and if it gets reddish or swollen, those are signs of infection. Which you probably already know.

My daughter had a very sore arm when the PICC was first inserted. The home health nurse measured her arm each week and said as long as it wasn't swollen or red at the insertion site it was fine.

Her arm remained achy the entire time she had her picc line. Even after it was taken out her arm ached for quite sometime.

I don't know if this is normal, but she had no infection or serious problems with it. I did the dressing changes and put a new end on it each week.

Is your arm swollen around the bicep area. That is where the home health nurse always measured.

HUGS,

Hey G...

Hope by now the soreness is gone. It is normal to feel like that. But I have to agree with Ice.. and her daughters experience.

She said.. "Her arm remained achy the entire time she had her picc line. Even after it was taken out her arm ached for quite sometime."

So I guess it is different for different folks.

Just hope yours is better by now.
