It seems like the last several months I have been having a lot of breast pain. I get sharp stabbing pains in the breast itself and sometimes in the chest above.

I quit my hormones and only take an over the counter progesterone.

I just had a mammogram and I'm scared witless. One area on the computer image was bright white and stood out dramatically from the rest of the area.

In fact each breast had this white area on it. It really has me worried.

Does anyone else have breast pains? Sometimes it's so bad I can't lay on my side.

Can lyme cause this or cause breast cancer?

I have spoken to a person that got breast cancer right after her diagnose with lyme.

I hope she comes and sees your post and talkes about it herself. She is disabled. What I know is she has bart and was never treated for it only for lyme and she is getting worse.

I've had brast pain throughout all the years of my diagnosis. For me, it's nerve pain and it's usually accomapnied by other pain on my right side. Sometimes in my shoulder, sometimes in my gum, sometimes on most of my right side.

It's a sharp pain. Irritating more than extremely painful.

I'm not sure about a connection between breast cancer and Lyme, however, it can absolutely cause breast pain and lactation. I have never had children, nor been pregnant, but I lactated from Lyme and it was so painful. Seat belts, bras, laying on my stomach or side-all caused horrible pain. I am what I used to jokingly call a B flat, but when this happened, I could not even fit into my least binding bras. Eventually it went away, after about a week or two.

I'm not sure if this happens when the spirochetes get into your pituitary, and stimulate prolactin, or if it is some other mechanism.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that your mammogram is normal.

Hi randibear,

I had terrible breast pain from Lyme. I could not wear a normal bra for a long time. It eventually got better for me, but I still get it occasionally.

For me I think it had to do with swollen lymph nodes, hormones, yeast and herxing.

I also have a cyst in my right breast and it gets painful at times. I had a mammogram and was worried that it was breast cancer, but my doctors told me that if it hurts it a cyst and not cancer.

I hope everything checks out for you okay, let us know.

oh boy, i think i'll stop that progesterone and see if that helps.

man, am i sore....and that white area on the mammogram looks awful.

My sister, the radiologist, said that calcium deposits appear as white areas as do fibrocystic diseased breasts.

I'm just waiting for the results. I made the appointment with my obgyn but can't get in until the end of May.

The stress with mom and all this is taking a toll on all our health.

I get the breast pain with Lyme. It's weird .... since Lyme can mess with the hormones, it makes sense it could happen .... I mean, when you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or menstruating, it's not uncommon to have breast pain.

randi,

stress can also cause benign breast cysts. the summer my health was bottoming out i was going through a lot of stress.

in the middle of it all i discovered a large mass in one of my breasts. it was more than an inch in diameter when i found it.

my gyn got me in immediately and i was able to schedule a comprehensive mammogram.

the radiologist followed that with an ultrasound and told me it appeared to be a cyst.

that's what it turned out to be. by the time i saw my surgeon to have it drained it was two inches in diameter and he didn't need an x-ray to find it.

it was visible from across the room.

with all the stress you've been under let's just hope that's what as caused this in you.

[group hug]

if you are taking any psych meds (specifically but possibly not limited antipsychotics) pain can happen in some people.

Absolutely it can cause pain. However, as usual when acute pain, or long term chronic pain stand out more so in one area than in the broader areas, it's wise to focus on testing. You're doing the right things. Try to remain as calm as possible.
