Hi,
I just got some blood work back and it shows my B12is high(1014) and also,my neutrophils is low.
Iam a vegetarian,so this really surprises me.
I am taking milk thistle,coQ10 and Efa.
I hope this is related to Lyme, because I was looking info up and it said could be a form of Leukemia(which runs in my family).
Can anyone clear this up for me.
Thanks,
Atheana [Smile]

I am also interested in why B12 would be this high. My daughter also tested with a very high number (almost the same number as above) and I can't seem to find what would cause this other than what Atheana found.

She was not taking any high dosage of B12 Vitamins or anything like that when her blood work was done. In fact, at the time we had stopped all vitamins b/c we were trying to determine what was causing her stomach upset at the time.

As far as B12, there is more to it then the amount of it in your blood. If you lack a certain intrinsic factor (I think that's the name), the B12 cannot be transported to the tissues and you can still get B12 deficiency symptoms.

My B12 has also shown up as high from time to time, for no obvious reason.

You can have it show high and not be where it belongs.
Theres some links in the b12 thread i posted that explain

The current gold standard for properly diagnosing B12 deficiency is the Urine MMA Level, due to the lack of sensitivity of the serum B12 test. The serum B12 test may produce false "normal" or "high" indications because of inactive B12 analogs in the blood from foods such as sea vegetables, or due to a body's last ditch dump from its bone marrow stores in response to severe deficiency. Available by mail from Norman Clinical Laboratories.

Wow! Thanks for the info!!!

I was tested about 6 yrs ago and my B-12 was high. Couldn't believe it since I felt like %$#%!

Fast forward to about 3 yrs ago when my GP gave me a B-12 shot following a horrendous post-gallbladder surgery infection.

I've been on the B-12 ever since and have found that it REALLY helps me.

I'm not concerned at all about the previous testing.....especially after what Tree just posted!

Yes, I am taking a lot of B vitamin supplements and testing high on blood test. Got my doubts this can be reflective of too much B. Think it probably means, one again, that lab testing is imperfect, does not always show what is really happening in the body.

Afraid, in my case, that the supplementing may not be doing what it is meant to do. That body not able to use it for some reason.

Lou....try a shot and see if there's any difference. If you're missing the intrinsic factor, your body won't be able to absorb it.
