ok guys I have been off antibiotics now for 6 days, and maybe it has nothing to do with this, but...

I have the worst shin splint type of pain, mostly when I walk..It's just horrible!

What could this mean?

I get those too! My legs are all messed up though. I have to wear orthodics or I just can't walk. Stupid collapsed arches.

Have you been treated for bartonella?

I get that too, but I haven't started tx yet. Hopefully the meds will help.

Cactus,

Technically not sure if I have been treated for bartonella?

I have taken:
doxy
omnicef
zithromax
clindamyacin and qualine (10 days only)

Have I ? I have suspected babesia ,but not sure about bartonella...hmmm

It doesn't sound like you've specifically targeted bart, but the zith might have had some effect on it.

Levaquin or Rifampin would hit bart. Or possibly Bactrim (Septra).

There might be others, too, I'm not up on all the protocols out there.

I tested neg for bart, but treated it anyway. One month into treatment, had to stop suddenly (long story) and immediately developed rashes indicative of bart.

Will be treating again soon, but in the meantime shin splint type pain is a big one for me, too. Ouch!

My calf pain was definitely from Bart.

You may want to get tested for Bart at Fry labs as you haven't taken specific Bart drugs to totally knock it out.

It'd be worth looking into if it's very painful!

Best,

Could be the wrong shoes or that you need orthotics, too.

I agree.

And if you have increased your activity levels it might also case pain there.

Hope it is better soon... cause it hurts!

OUCH!

I don't know what causes it, but I know what helps me. My shin splints have been waking me up at night. They don't hurt much during the day.

My naturopath had a compounding pharmacy mix up a cream with magnesium, neurontin and flexiril that I apply before going to bed. Really helps.

For me, it started before I started treatment. I know I have Babs, tested neg for Bart.

Howdy Laura Miller,

Yes, shin pain could be bart. But it could be a mechanical problem. I agree with Cactus and TuTu. You may or not test positive for bart, even when you indeed have it.

I used to wake up with this when I was camping. Now that you mention it, I'm considering that wasn't such a coincidence.

I was told it was dehydration. I never thought I was dehydrated.

Sleeping on a Thermarest helped. It felt like my calves were about to fall off.

Hoping you all are sleeping well,

Thanks for the replies! I have thought about whether or not it was my shoes, but I have been wearing my good workout shoes which have awesome arch support and I even wore them when I did the 3 day walk...

But boy they are still throbbing like crazy..my LLMD doesn't really do co-infections testing but believes in treating for it, and wants me to start Riampfin next, so will see...

I will drink lots of extra water just in case, and was just thinking anyway of beginning magnesium supp. All good advise, thanks!!

I get that...it's horrible. If driving I have to stop and get out and walk around.

Right then, too, it's so bad I can't operate the pedals. Not a good scenario on the freeway.

I read that deliberately walking on your heels can stretch that muscle and help some.

Apparently it's the muscles on the side of your shin bone that do this. Anyway you're not alone with this but I don't know if it's TBD related or not.
