Two months ago I got a bacterial infection in my medaport and it had to be removed. Then, I find out from my home care provider that I should throw away all heparin that I may have left over because of suspected contamination.

I called the manufacturer and got the details, and it turns out that the heparin had been infected in china before it entered the USA.

HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?

That's not my point, my point is...if you have a port for IV access with your medicines, please ask your pharmacist if you should be concerned, and talk to your doctor to see if you should have blood cultures drawn just to make sure.

Did this happen to anybody else out there?

I know it's been posted several times over the past month....but I don't remember if anyone else said they actually got an infection.

Sorry it happened to YOU!

Hope your recovery from it is swift!! [group hug]

thanks lymetutu!

Actually, knock on wood, I think my infection is gone from the heparin.

I've been so sick I haven't been able to get online this last month, so figures that I missed the posts. Sorry for the redundancy.

God bless you all and good night!

I think they got this problem fixed now, but doesn't hurt to ask your health provider...
