I'm asking this for a fellow 'lymie' who just started shots and has had an instant herx. she can't even get to her computer....

Has anyone ever had bicillin shots?

If you have what type of herxheimer did you get...was it fairly instant and hard core?

What dose were you on?

Also, did you ever take bicillian with biaxin?

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
Christine

Christine,

Sorry to hear your friend has been hit so hard so quickly.

I have done Bicillin - for just almost 2 months the first time, and for almost 9 months the second time.

My herx was not immediate though - it took a few weeks and was then severe for a week. But I have heard others say herxes can happen very quickly on it, and can be severe and prolonged.

It varies from patient to patient - some don't herx at all on it, just improve quickly.

I started on one shot the first week, then 2 per week, and then 3 per week. I used the 1.2IU shots.

At the time I was also on Zith, Malarone....but I know others who have taken Biaxin with it. In fact Dr.B was going to add Biaxin to the shots for me just before he retired, but then when switched docs went on Zith instead.

If your friend is concerned she should contact her LLMD - is there any way this could be an allergic reaction?

Hope this helps
Elaine

Thanks Elaine!

I will contact her- yes, I was suspecting a possible allergy too.

Thanks again for your help.

No problem Christine -

Hope she'll be ok - will you let us know what her LLMD advises?

Elaine

Hey ho --
I don't usually herx right after bicillin, so an allergy could be the culprit here.

My LLMD prescribed an epipen along with the bicillin. I keep it handy because I guess you can develop an allergy to penicillin very quickly.

If she doesn't have an epipen, perhaps she should try to get one. Just to be safe...

Good luck,
Allie

I did four months of Bicillin at two shots per week.

Apparently, the Bicillin reaches the peak in its half-life about 30 hours after injection.

I had a hard reaction about 24 hours after my first shot. I was up all night tossing and turning.

The same thing happened after my second and third shots and then I quit experiencing the hard reactions.

The symptoms of an alergic reaction are generally very different. They would usually be a rash over large areas of the body, swelling, perhaps difficulty breathing.

The herxheimer is generally more the achy, fatigued, flu like feeling. Some people get very hard herxheimers from Bicillin, especially at first.

The Dr. should know which it is.

Is she taking Metronidazole (Flagyl) with Bicillin? This is recommended on a pulse dose to avoid driving the spirochetes into the cyst form. IV penicillin made me feel great, but the days on pulsed Metronidazole were some of my worst.
