How long are injections usually prescribed for? Is there a minimum or maximum time frame? # of months? 6 months? 1 year? I know there is not hard and fast answer but I am wondering what is usual. I am currently getting 2 shots 1 x a week. Herxing right now badly so excuse this short and to the point post. Thanks for any help you can give.

I was on Bicillin shots for 4 months also at twice per week. My LLMD does three months minimum and then reevaluates. I had hard reactions to the injections for about a week and a half and then it got easier and less noticable.

I was to begin Bicillin 1.2m 2x wk for min. of 3 months.

then another test just came along positive (for Cpn - chlamydia pneumonia), so I won't be doing the bicillin - or at least, not now.

Hi Robi,

Yes, I see the pain, in your post. [Frown]

I've heard of from a few months to a year. After 6 months of IV Rocephen I did LA Bicillin shots 3 times a week for ten months, at 1.2 mil per shot.

My first LA Bicillin herx lasted 6 1/2 weeks and was intense. After that, they lessened in duration and intensity.

I loved Bicillin for what it did for me in my head! It's not processed through the GI tract!

I took biaxin all the way through both.

Hang-in there, robi. All right?

Thanks for the replies. So has anyone done more than 4 months?

I did bicillin LA shots for six months. They helped me very much. I did 4.8 million units a week for six months.

My lyme was definitely managed during this time.

I have been taking bicillin IM 1xper week 1.2 million units since last August -- so that puts it at at least 8 months. I really like it. I feel like I am functioning at a good level.

I herxed hard for about 6 weeks, then started to feel better and better. Now I herx when I add in another med. My llmd seems to like to add in diflucan for a month about every other month or so.

With the diflucan, I still herx. I continue to herx until I stop taking it.

So, you may feel crummy for a while. If you can manage to stick it out, it might really prove to be a good thing for you.

I'm sorry you feel so crummy!

For those who did well while taking the bicillin injections

What happened when you stopped them. Did you cont with other antibiotics, relapse, in remission?

Just curious - had my 1st shot last night. I am definitely herxing big time but felt so crummy the last few months it isn't making that much of a difference to me personally

I am also starting the Cowden protocol and doing Pekana drainage remedies plus other supplements

I was taking minocycline along with the Bicillin.

My doctor had me stop everything all at once 3 months ago and I have yet to go back on antibiotics after on Bicillin.

I'm doing OK but still have many symptoms, including fatigue, dizziness, etc.

I'm not sure what to do now and my doctor wants to keep me off antibiotics.

As you know, the Bicillin is very difficult at first and my herx reactions were extremely painful.

I remember the second night after my first shot, I could not sleep at all and my whole body was aching and throbbing.

I called the LLMD the next morning and told him about my strong reaction and he said it was a good sign and to keep doing the shots.

I wanted to quit so bad but kept with it and it got easier after a few more weeks.

I have another question about Bicillin. What kind of side effects do the shots cause?

I was on bicillin for about 6-7 months and made the most progress during this time.(I have been undergoing treatment for 2.5 years now) I def. had some symptoms come back a few months after I got off and I am still continuing on different oral abx. good luck! (to you and your booty!) hang in there, it took a while but the herxes should get more manageable.
