I am two years into treatment and definitely have a few more years of recovery ahead of me before I even think about getting pregnant. I obviously want to wait until I am better & healthy to have children, but I am having trouble finding information on possible pregnancy issues for post-treatment Lyme

I am curious what the risks will be for passing on lyme congenitally or through breast milk when I am done with treatment and considered "well".

Any info would be appreciated and feel free to ask any questions if you need clarification from me!

I can't help you too much but I know my LLMD puts pregnanat post-lyme moms on a low dose of ABX throughout your pregnanacy.

I hope this helps...good to hear you're getting better and thinking of the future!

There is a yahoo group called preglyme that you need to check out. It is full of women who have lyme disease and are either pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.

There are lots of success stories and it really helps you understand that with the right treatment then it is in fact possible to have both a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. You can ask all kinds of questions and get great help from women who are going through it with you.

Check it out, if nothing else it will be a great resource for you. We aren't planning to try for another two years but it is nice to be patched into a resource like this. Good luck...

Dr. J had a protocol that was given to me by Dr.B a few years ago and I believe it is posted in one of my old threads. The problem is that the treatment keeps changing and now I am hearing about different treatment options.

If anyone has the new treatment plan can you please post it.

Thanks

You are correct that the treatment plan keeps changing. From the information that I have gathered from the yahoo board the most common treatment during pregnancy is Ceftin 500 twice a day, and zithromax 500 mg once per day.

Nearly all of the women on the board have a regular LLMd who corresponds with Dr. J rather than the pregnant family contacting him.

Once the baby is born the family may choose to see him for testing etc. Also, some women choose to do bicilin shots or to take oral augmenten. However, the most common is ceftin and zithromax. Hopes this helps.
