How did your LLMD treat bart? What drug/dosage/duration? Did you take it with another antibiotic at the same time? Like Levaquin and Doxy? I'd like to know as much as I can about the recommended course of treatment to deal with Bart and Lyme. Thanks much.

My daughter has been treated with Levaquin, IV Rifampin and now doxycycline. Don't remember the dosages of others, but we are starting her on 200mgs of IV doxy, building to 400. She is doing IV because her gastric system cannot tolerate oral anymore.
I know that most doctors team one of these up with another abx - I think zithromax- but am not sure. If you do a search for bartonella threads, I think you will find lots of information.
I know there is a new drug out that, I think, is in the rifampin family; but I don't think anyone has been on it long enough to evaluate it. I am interested too, in hearing from anyone who might be using it, or anything other than those I mentioned above.
My daughter gets so sick every time she starts treatment that the docs pull her off. Very frustrating!

Hi!
My LLMD uses a proprietary herbal formula, followed by Levaquin or Cipro.
I'm not there yet, so I have no experiences to relate--still working on the Bartonella.
Best,
Cass A

I'm on oral rifampin, and I'm not doing too well on it. I'm supposed to be taking minocycline with it, but these antibiotics are killing me, and I'm already taking metronidazole.
My bowel movements have like very little odor. Is that a side effect? Did I kill off all my ecoli?
I'm about ready to give up.
The one improvement I've noticed is that about an hour after taking the rifampin, my vision gets clearer and I am able to urinate all the fluid retention. Other than that though, my symptoms persist.

Here are some possible options used to fight bartonella. People usually see better results with carefully calculated combos of 2 or more instead of 1. In my opinion, This list goes from least effective to most effective.
ABX:
Doxycycline(mild) Tetracyclcine(mild) Zithromax(mild) Roxithromycin(found overseas only) Bactrim aka septra Biaxin Ketek(stronger) Minocycline Mycobutin Rifampin(kind of strong, more commonly results in relaps) Flagyl(herx/side effects hard to tell apart) Factive Avelox Vancomycin Ciprofloxacin Levofloxacin(strong) Trovafloxacin(hard to get a prescript for, liver toxicity but highly effective) Streptomycin Gentamicin(very strong, but bad side effects possible)
Possible herbs:
Samento(mild) Allicin(I don't see great stories on this one) Clove extract Cumanda HH capsule(supposedly highly effective)
Does anyone know how to get email updates to posts????????????????????????????

Any knowledge on recommended dosage for Cipro in treating bart? What's your take on Cipro vs. Levaquin for Bart?
