So I was on Zithromax for 10 wks. and my stomach was a mess despite tons of probiotics. My LLMD finally recommended a week long break.

I decided while on this break I would do a 10 day course of Diflucan that I had a prescription for just in case some of my stomach issues were due to yeast.

I herxed like crazy the whole time on Diflucan. I finished 2 days ago and now today I'm starting to feel better. I'm not on anything right now. I was going to only take a week off Zith but I didn't think I could tolerate adding it back in while on Diflucan.

So now I'm thinking that sinced I herxed on the Diflucan up until the very last moment on it, that there's still something left for it to kill off.

I saw my LLMD yesteday and she switched me to Biaxin and Plaquenil. I'm nervous about starting up on abx again if there's still significant yeast that the Diflucan didn't get. My LLMD thinks the Diflucan herx was b/c it was hitting Lyme not yeast b/c she didn't think I'd get such a strong die-off from yeast but I've read of others having a strong die-off from yeast.

Not sure how to handle this. Any ideas?

.......I'm not on anything right now and am scared to stay off abx too long. Saturday will be 2 weeks off Zith and 4 days off Diflucan.

Hi tend to agree with your doc. Diflucan can be effective against lyme (cyst buster) and acts very quickly (usually three-four days as it a small molecule and has excellent BBB penetration). I have seen this in two of my family members.

You might try supplementing, along with the probiotics, some S.Boulardii, a very beneficial yeast to keep the bad yeast beast away. And watch your diet.......don't feed the yeast!

Diflucan can be a CYST BUSTER????!!!!! I've never heard that before!!! Well then if it's a cyst buster and I'm not on abx to mop it all up, I need to be, right?

Were you taking probiotics while you were on abx?

You have to take probiotics - or else it will tear your stomach up.

And yes, you need to get back on abx as soon as possible!!!

So should I just get back on abx and not worry that I may still have candida?

My LLMD told me NOT to take diflucan near zith-and since they both stay in your system for a while, your "herx" could have been a reaction. I got really sick from Diflucan..assumed it was aherx-actually it was a reaction from taking it 2 days after stopping zith.

why shouldn't you take diflucan while on zith??

I am doing the diflucan protocol for Lyme along with mepron and biaxin.

Can be done. I take 60 days of diflucan. Take ten days to two weeks off then repeat.

I am on my 3rd cycle of this.

I didn't know diflucan was a cyst buster though.

Hugs,

Geneal

Does anyone have any further info about diflucan being a cyst buster?

It is not unheard of that an "azole" could be bacteriacidal. In fact there has been recent news where anti-yeast meds (azoles) are being used to treat drug resistant TB. Something to do with the p450 pathway.

Doc P (very reputable) feels fluc is a cyst buster---but does not, to my knowledge, prescribe it with a macrolide-

Dr. P in CT? So have I done damage to myself by taking Diflucan and Zith so close together?

Posted by laura j (Member # 14257) on :

.....sure feels like I've done damage.

i think my question got lost in the mix of things........

Why can't you take diflucan with zithro???

I'm not sure what has happened to me but I'm in terrible pain. I've never been in this much pain. It all started while on the Zith and got worse w/the Diflucan but now I've stopped both and I figured if it was a herx it would get better but it hasn't.

Floxing doesn't happen w/either of these does it?

Confused!

My doctor started me on Diflucan last Tuesday night but didn't mention any initial diet changes, unless I fail to respond. He said 50mg a day. If no response after 2-3 weeks, he said avoid all sugars, refined foods, fruit, etc. I do that now except for fruit. If still no result, I go off starch or most carbs.

He said probiotics are not necesary. I already eat tons of veggies and some fruit which provide prebiotics.

People taking Diflucan, what were your main symptoms and is this your first treatment?

I always hear about weight gain but I lost about 25 lbs since October.

Thoughts?
