Are long-term oral antibiotics expected to be as effective as IV? I'm really not too interested in IV but my LLMD suggested that we discuss the possibility in July.

I've treated for approximately one year with no clear progress. I was just diagnosed with Babesia about a month ago. I've been taking Mepron/Zith for about three weeks.

Any thoughts?

Hi Hiawatha922,

In my opinion and I am not a doc, but I would stick with the treatment for Babesia and then see how you feel. Three weeks isn't really long enough.
As far as IV verses oral abx, it probably depends on each person.

I made huge improvements with Babesia treatment. Maybe it will be the turning point for you? I hope.

Hang in there.

I'm curious to know how long others have treated for Babesia before seeing results.

I had slow progress treating babs. I felt immediately better, but only slightly. The herxes were hard, and after each herx, I felt slightly better.

I agree that I'd give babs treatment a few months before I tried IV. We were talking about IV for me, but then treated bart and I ended up getting well enough I didn't need IV.

I'm thinking I need IV Rocephin again, and some real babesia drugs might do me some good, too, since I'm positive, but I can't afford them.

I can't afford the gas back and forth either for IV, so basically, I sit here and wait to die.

I'm thinking of speeding up my own death here soon - I can't handle this pain and not sleeping much longer, and there is no way in hell I will ever go on a controlled substance again to sleep or help with anxiety and put myself at the mercy of any doctor in getting the medication again.

I learned that lesson once. Nobody will ever have to teach me that one again.

Doctors are going to learn a lesson from a patient though when I leave my suicide note.

Uuuggghh Tailz...HUGE sigh from me.... [shake]

I know that it's hard. You've been given a tough hand...we all have.

I don't know the in's and out's of your situation, but I do know with all my heart suicide is not the answer.

Dig deep and ask God - every minute of the day if need be - for strength and guidance.

I am so sad that you feel this way...I've felt the same at times and it's a scary feeling, but you just have to believe things will get better.

Hang in there Tailz!!!!

Btw Azure, I know the feeling on insomnia. I have finally found some relief by taking 7.5 mg of Melatonin, which gets me to sleep sometime between 11 and 3 am instead of 3 and 8 am. I hope you find something that works for you too. Insomnia seems to make everything else worse.

Insomnia is a bad symptoms. If i dont get enough sleep all my symptoms get worse. Maybe if you could control that the rest would improve some.

Have you tried anything natural for babs. I also think their is rx older than malarone/mepron used for babs in conjunction with abx if you could talk a dr into giving u a script for some. Do you qualify for pateint assistance programs cuz i think i have heard someone say that one of them includes mepron.

I am sorry you are going through such a rough time tailz [group hug] [group hug]

I treated Babesia with pulsed artemicin and garlic for about nine months, and also with homeopathics. Fortunately, that did take care of it for me.
