Just wondering what is the best medicine to take for babesia?
Malarone or Mepron?
Also what antibiotic should be taken along with it?
Also is it best to just focus on just one co-infection?
I've been feeling very lost in my treatment process... not knowing what to try next.
I've been praying to God about this, asking for some direction. Last night while in the sauna I started to get the chills... out of nowhere.
I know it might sound crazy, but I really feel like that's a sign. I have a few babesia symptoms. I treated it for a short time last year, but not long enough. I felt worse... lot of heart palps. I stopped because they scared me. I think this time I need to tough it out. Those heart palps could of been a herx, right?
I have a doctor's appointment and want to have an idea of what meds I should start taking..

Lauren,
Mepron is stronger. Doc's normally use it along with zithromax. Yes, you'll want to pick off co-infections one at a time.
Babesia is normally the first one to start with. The zith keeps the lyme in check as well as assisting the babs treatment.

3-4 doses of Mepron per day and either 1000 mg of Zithromax or 1,500-2,000 mg Biaxin plus Artemesisa annua. All for 4-6 months to kill babesia. Mepron alone doesn't work. Make sure you take your Mepron with fatty foods so it is absorbed. Posted by sixgoofykids (Member # 11141) on :
Mepron is stronger. Take it with Zith or Biaxin plus Artemisia.
I also took Amoxy/Probenecid with that combo for the Lyme.
My LLMD treats all coinfections together. Once we discovered I had bart, we've been treating it along with the babs and Lyme. Not all LLMD's are this aggressive.
I have been on babs treatment for 16 months. It can take a long time to eradicate.

I am taking Malarone now at a dosage of one twice daily (which is twice the dosage recommended by the company who makes it), so it's significantly less than the two tsp. Mepron twice daily that I was taking.
It seems most take fewer than six Malarone per day. Yes, at that higher dose, it seems to be the same strength.

What if you can't tolerate zith? Is Doxycline okay?
Sixgoofykids, are you taking Enula with all your other babesia meds?

No, with Mepron you either need Zith or Biaxin. If you can't take either of those, then you might need to take Malarone instead because it doesn't have the resistance problems the Mepron does since it's a combo of two meds.
