Without having had the Lyme vaccine would it even be possible to have bands 31 and 34 positive on the Igenex IgM but NOT have Lyme?

After much hassle I finally got copies of my Igenex testing today:

IgG

18 -
22 -
23-25 -
28 -
30 -
31 IND
34 -
39 -
41 IND
45 -
58 ++
66 -
73 -
83-93 -

IgM

18 -
22 -
23-25 -
28 -
30 -
31 ++
34 ++
39 -
41 IND
45 -
58 -
66 -
73 -
83-93 -

The IgG says Igenex NEGATIVE and CDC NEGATIVE, but the IgM says Igenex POSITIVE and CDC NEGATIVE.

I "get" that the 31 and 34 bands are Lyme specific in that they made the vaccine from them.

So the ? is... since I did not have the vaccine (didn't even know it existed till recently!), does this mean there is no-two-ways-about it, I have Lyme?

The PA who signed the order for me wanted to schedule me for a spinal tap as these results "basically tell us nothing".

I told him (nicely!) no. =)

who, even with "Igenex POSITIVE" is still scared the docs won't believe she's NOT just crazy

You have a positive test. I am guessing that your doctor is not an LLMD?

I would post in seeking doctors to find an LLMD near you.

If you were a dog, that test would be considered positive by

the CDC. Post in seeking a doc.

By all means you should find a real LLMD.

I donk know where your doctor thought thos bands came from?

But that was the exact response we received from our ex family doctor.

Good Luck!

Sorry to hear/see YOU HAVE LYME and that you are wise enough to not go through a spinal tap. Now I hope you search for a good LLMD. Good luck.

Thanks, guys!

adamm- I dunno why but your post made me laugh. =) You're right, of course.

It is just hard to switch gears.

I've been playing things down and living in paranoia about people (esp. docs) believing there is something wrong with me for TOO many years, if that makes sense.

I have Dr. C's contact info, as well as info on a Lyme-friendly doc about 45min from me, so I guess the next step is setting up new patient appts.

That'll be fun, what with NO ins and NO $$. *sigh*

In hindsight, I know I've been sick at least since jr. high (I'm 29 now w/ 2 kids... that's the next project... getting them tested.)

Hubby's remark to the test results was "Why didn't your parents take care of this way back there?" [Big Grin] HAHA (back when I had medical insurance, that is!)

He was only half joking, though. The real answer is that my mother never believed me when I had "weird things" going on. She always said it was normal.

Normal for HER maybe... I've always had a hard time believing it was normal for NORMAL people.

All in all, it IS a relief. I'm feeling a little shocked, though, that the playing make-believe really can end.

That is, I don't have to try and hide feeling bad anymore, there really IS a reason for it besides I'm a lunatic. [woohoo]

I may have patient notes on the doctor you're planning on seeing. PM me and I can tell you what they've said to me.

Please, do NOT let them to a lumbar puncture on a whim. It rarely - RARELY - will show lyme and is not much use with MS either. It might be helpful with an acute brain infection, but that does not sound like the case.

Lumbar punctures can be very painful and take days - or longer - to recover. If you do do that, be sure to ask about a certain needle size and technique from others on this board. And, follow the after care instructions exactly - and have a backup to help you out for a few days in case of migraine. All practical matters. Still, not a good or accurate test if just searching for lyme.

Yes, you can drop "crazy" and "lunatic" from your vocabulary. Don't even mention it again, but only kind references for yourself. That is very important.

Besides, the instant we say a negative word about ourselves even if we add, NOT to it, others hear only the derogatory term. Don't give them a chance to hear anything but kind terms when referring to yourself. You sound smart, intuitive and seem to be in search of truth. All strong qualities.

Take care now.

If you get 3 or more family members tested within a two week period,

Igenex offers a 15% discount.

That may help.

You are Igenex positive and not CDC positive because the CDC doesn't count the bands

That were used to make the Lyme vaccine.

Band 31 and 34 are Lyme specific. Nothing else could have made that "magically" show up.

Keep us posted please.

Hugs,

Geneal
