I only have been on Amoxicilin for 3 weeks. The dosage is 6000 mg per day.

I keep waiting for a herx. All I get, is a knee/calf pain that happens every week or so

Is this part or the herx?

If not then Amoxicilan has done zero for me. I am going to take the full 60 days as that is when my next doctor appointment is

Does Amoxicilan take longer to be become effectiv

How are you taking the amox? IV?

Is there anything else you are using in your treatment?

6,000mg sounds awefully high....

Hi Tony....That sounds like a pretty good dosage for lyme. I got up to 5000 mg at one point. I couldnt work work out what was going on as I felt like cr*p all the time.

I didnt make ground until I started treating bart. I did a month of cipro then amox then cipro then doxy. I made ground all the way until I stopped treating Bart. Amox started to become much more effective when used in tandom with Bart treatment.

Get co-infections looked at and treated. If you have lyme as your main problem the Amox should work on getting the numbers down. Takes a long time.

I am on amoxicillin too- 7500 mg along w 3 other antibiotics. I havent nessacarily herxed from the meds, just had a very slow worsening of neurological symptoms and fatigue. You DO NOT have to herx from antibiotics; it is most likely still doing its job. When I first started on abx a few months ago I had no herx but instead felt much better. Thought I was "cured" actually. Unfortunately though this didnt last and I started getting worse after 2 months and now am more sick than I was before starting treatment. Everyone is different, and therefore gets better differently. Not everyone herxes.

I will probably be starting bart treatment next month, as my Dr. thinks I have it so maybe that'll do the trick [Smile] Make sure you check for co-infections as well

tony - i take over 12,000 mg of amox a day with 2 other abx

i started only with the amox - needed to have a certain level in blood

saw a difference - but it takes time

other abx were added for coinfections over time

did not see a difference with amox until the level llmd wanted was reached

blood level # is between 20-25

3 weeks is not a long time - hang in there

oh - did this with our young daughter

a few years ago she was not walking because of severe pain

she was put on amox after other treatments failed her

took 3 mos to reach the right amox blood level -

but within week of reaching that level - she started to walk without pain

she now weighs about 82 lbs, and she takes 3000mg a day

oh - my point is it doesn't have anything to do with body weight...i think it is more about your body's metabolism

forgot to say, yes your knee and calf pain can

very well be a herx

Thanks, wow so if I got it right. You are saying that it takes a while for amoxicilan to kick in.

I have never heard of blood level measures. What is this and should I be tested for this.

Should I experiment a couple of days of moving my dosage up to see if I can trigger a herx.

don't mess with the dosage without talking to your llmd

i can only tell you what has worked for us - this is what our llmd does - it is what he finds works for some of his patients

it doesn't mean that it will work for everyone

everyone is different

just thought i would put it out there - talk with your doc - and good luck

improvement with lyme happens gradually - especially if you have chronic lyme - i can't remember if you said you had co infections?
