My son got lyme he is 3 years old. He got the bull's eye rash and we took him to the doctor and they gave us anti-boticics for 2-3 weeks and said he would be ok because we cought it early. He is now 4 1.2 and latly he has on and off fevers, headaches.. He also has mood swings where some days he wonderful and others hard to deal with..Just normal 4 Year olds?! Could he still have Lyme and could he be having symptoms because of this or because we caught it early this no possible and I should not worry. Please advise.

I am not 100% sure about children, but I don't think 2-3 weeks of antibiotics is enough.

Dosage is also important.

Have you thought about doing a Western Blot through Igenex for him?

While I have two children with Lyme, I believe them both to be congenital.

I am sure someone else can help you where I can't.

Sorry your little boy isn't feeling well. [Frown]

Hugs,

Geneal

He could.

If you could get him to a lyme literate dr. that would be able to acess if he still had it or if perhaps he was unknowningly infected again.

(not all people who get lyme get the bullseye rash)

Run a western blot test from Igenex, then you will find out if your son has it or not.

Hi,
Welcome!
Lyme often times requires months or years of treatment at any and all ages. Children are no different. I have a friend who has a 4 year old who has been in treatment for 2 years.

There are only a few possibilities...either your sons lyme was undertreated and he is relapsing, co-infections were never treated or he was bitten again and you are unaware...most don't remember a bite or a rash.

Your son needs to see Lyme literate Md and be tested through Igenex (tick borne specialty lab).

Ticks often carry more than lyme disease, they carry other bacteria called co-infections, mainstream Md's are not trained in any of these tick borne diseases. Not infectious disease or any "specialists".

If you'd like help finding an LLMD (lyme literate Md) please email at the links at the bottom of this post (where it reads- my story or p/m me here. There is a lot of reliable info and Resources avaliable at my story link for you to study.

My son had lyme at age 7 and relapsed at age 17 and is now considered chronic and needs long term treatment, be aware most of all NO MD will understand this or agree to the doses of antibiotics needed and long term treatment. This is the fastest growing infectious disease in the U.S. and Md's are illiterate to this because they are not trained in medical school to understand tick borne diseases.

I know this disease well - 6 in my family have it.

This is a very complex, misunderstood disease by "regular" Md's and testing through ordinary labs is NOT reliable or diagnostic.

Take care.

Yes, he could still have it. Two-three wks of abx were probably not enough, sad to say.

Go to Seeking a Doctor here and locate a dr for your child. Ask him/her to run a Western Blot test from www.igenex.com

...joe, welcome; so glad you found us!

yes, he very well can!

you are fortunate that you have 1 KIDS LLMD in your state; only 10-12 NATIONWIDE!!!

he should be tested for LYME and also CO-INFECTIONS: BARTONNELLA, BABSIOSA, AND ERHLICHIA are the main ones tested.

we recommend testing for lyme at IGENEX, CALIF. and co-infection testing at FRY LABS, ARIZONA since it's cheaper than calif. and equal. Fry does blood smears also! this is all covered in my huge NEWBIE PACKAGE mentioned below.

also in my package are the many signs/symptoms for kids compiled by geneal who answered you at the top.

WELCOME, would you like a FREE copy of my newbie package of 120 pages info galore sent by LYMENET'S PRIVATE MESSAGE system here; includes TREEPATROL'S LINK of his archive of over 1000 links of good lyme info?

I've been completely REORGANIZING it; NOT DONE YET; but up to page 60 since I have now created a TABLE OF CONTENTS WITHOUT PAGE NUMBERS since it changes DAILY! The part NOT organized yet is the last 30 pages of SSDI, ss disability insurance benefits tips/forms!

also, please go to TREEPATROL'S NEWBIE INFO IN MEDICAL; at top being features; mark it as a favorite! over 1000 links of good lyme info. He/I have some duplicates.

most of mine is very DETAILED info on certain things: SSDI/ss diability insurance benefits; FINANCIAL BURDENS; about IGENEX blood testing, symptoms lists for the basic types, NOIR/no infrared SUNGLASSES, etc. and how to use this board!

Joe, everyone here gave you the same advice i would

i have lyme and so do all 3 of my children

was it congenital? not sure and probably will never know

your story is similar to that of our youngest

she was infected - given 2 weeks abx by pediatrician

became more and more ill over time - 1 and half year later correct diagnosis from an llmd

igenex is the lab to use, but without the right doctor it will do you no good

search for the lyme literate doctor (llmd) make sure your child is tested for the co infections too

read as much as possible

www.ilads.org
www.lymediseaseassociation.org

you are doing the right thing for your child, stick with it, i know how heartbreaking it is
