Does anyone know any real information regarding this?

Or is this condition contrived by all of those people in the medical industry supported by the health insurance groups?

People with autoimmune issues such as myself ("Hashimoto's" hypothyroidism)have been told that our symptoms are probably due to autoimmune conditions.

I don't buy it. Currently dumped my primary in lieu of a local LLMD.

Please post on this.

As Betty G would say -- HOGWASH !!!

Hubby was given this label after 2 months of IV Rocephin. Supposed LLMD neuro with little knowledge of coinfections gave him this label -- in medical records. No "proof" of any autoimmune label.

After 7 plus years of illness hubby has had some possible indications that his illness might be converting to an autoimmune illness. However, current LLMD says if the infection is treated the autoimmune symptoms will go away. I think he is right. Hubby is responding to current treatment.

Here is a link to a journal article that does offer one explanation of why the body could have autoimmune issues. I think the info is on the very last page, but the entire article is very relevant for Lyme neuroborreliosis.

Auto-immune is another word for "I don't know what the heck it is... but if I put my name on I'll be famous... and we can sure use some new research money flowing in here to support our Starbuck's habit."

Bet you didn't know that!

In MY opinion.. auto-immune is a "garbage pail" diagnosis. Why?

They are trying to tell us zillions of people have suddenly developed a bunch of conditions where their own body starts attacking itself? They have no known cause and no known cure?

COME ON!!!

They will have to bark up someone else's tree.. cause that dog don't hunt.

Glad you are THINKING for yourself!

Good luck!

You are correct. It is contrived. Shamefully contrived and manipulated.

ILADS - www.ilads.org - see the articles and presentations section with the menu to the left of ILADS home page. - and to the right, see the work of Alan McDonald (or MacDonald).

You'll find some interesting reading there.

Others will come along with some other articles, too.

It's bull****, let me tell you why. Lyme Disease does infact infect human cells, collagen, nerves (Brain, spine and everywhere else).

Autoimmunity is merely the body attacking itself without just cause. The fact is, the body "IS" attacking itself by pure consequence of an active infection residing within the infected cell.

Our bodies kill cells in order to get to the infection in "many" infectious diseases, it's no different with a chronic persistent infection.

The problem is, the immune system is blamed, when it is infact the bacterium which is the sole cause of provoking the immune system.

If symptoms are still present, and autoimmunity in terms of inflammation is detected via blood work or objective ourward symptoms, an ongoing infection is the result.

Now, it is possible to have symptoms which may mimic autoimmunity once permanent damage has been done to nerve tissue. This is possible and has happened in cases. But, chances are there is still active infection if the symptoms wax and wane.
