I was reading atopic last night about abx's for chronic lyme. I have been taking doxy for a total of about 4-5 mos., it had done nothing for me.

I have enough so planned on taking it till I see LLMD in Aug. Maybe I should stop taking it?

How much are you taking? You need a min. of 300 mg per day for Lyme treatment. Dr. B's guidelines say 300-600.

Doxy didn't work very well for me, but I would take it until your LLMD appt.

I had lyme over a year (at least? who knows) before I started treatment. 200mg of Doxy /day helped me. 300mg/day helped even more.

How long do you think you've had lyme?

What about co-infections - have you been tested and/or looked through the symptom lists?

Doxy won't help with some of those, maybe it's babs or bart, et al, making you sick?

What are your symptoms, etc?

I believe I have had Lyme well over 30 yrs. Sick since a teenager. Then after many yrs. of searchingcame the cfs & fibro diagnosis. Changed last yr. to a cfs doc in Manhattan & he tested me for Lyme in Nov. I was actually CDC positive for one of them. Found out he really doesn't know how to treat Lyme so made appoint. with LLMD in Aug.

Have enough doxy to last till then so was going to keep taking it. No I haven't really been teste for co-infections. But the doxy is doing nothing for me. Thinking maybe I should give my body a rest before the big ones start.

My most bothering symptoms are #1 fatigue. Have alot of body pain, alot of it being arthritis. Of course then there's always the bigtime brainfog.

It is not that unusual to not be better in 4-5 months, especially after being sick for that long. It can be a long road.

Also, you really don't know what coinfections you have. Identifying and treating those could really help you turn the corner.

I would not start taking any "unusual" things as suggested above. I would be very surprised if your LLMD wanted you to. I would stay the course. Hopefully, your LLMD will be a lot more aggressive and will help you get to the bottom of treating what's wrong in the best possible way for you. Keep us posted!!

I was taking all sorts of marcolides and tetra class abx and not feeling any better, stopped the tetra class (not that they dont work but...)

I added the pennicillins (and droped the tetra of course due to conflicts with pennys)((amox) only because thats all I had, and in 2 days, I felt better! I cant explain it. Now I am convinced (at least me anyway) that pennicliins have a role here. I no longer believe in the book I read saying cell wall inhibitors make lyme worse. But thats my opinion, and your intitaled to yours.

Doxy is such a great all-rounder for Lyme & associated. And you have been described a good dosage. I would probably keep going if it was me.

I was sick for about 1 1/2 years before dx. I went from bedridden to up after about 3 weeks of doxy (and that's a major change, right?!) but then got even sicker after about 6 weeks on doxy. My LLMD UPPED my dosage at that time. Since then I have gotten better and better, BUT it is a very long, slow road (compared to the first dramatic improvement, when I was able to get out of bed due to treatment).

I took 400 mgs for 14 months, now 200 mgs mino for 2 months. Fatigue was one of my most persistent symptoms, I was very neuro Lyme, I continue to improve.

I've never been diagnosed with any co's.

This all takes awhile, and I'm sure everyone's case is different.

Hi keltyl -

I have been sick for 20yrs with lyme and Babs -

it has taken about 3 yrs of treatment to
get to where I feel perty good most of the time-

Its going to take a while before your germ load
goes down and for you to start feeling better-

You should continue to take your doxi -
No reason to stop -

Make Sure Not to eat Any dairy - vitamins
or minerals for 2 hours after taking your doxi

Drink Lots of water or tea -Jay-

Thanks groovy2. I am going to continue the doxy till my appoint. I was nervous about going to a new doc, but now it can't come soon enough. I've never been tested for coinfections.

I just want to get on the right track so I can eventually see some improvement. Glad you are doing better.
