I have been lucky enough to not have needed to be here for a long time. SOme of you might remember me. My whole family deals with lyme and has been for the last 12 years. My kids suffer the worst but are fairing well as we go to the best ped for lyme there is.
anyway the problem is with me... I have gotten my first tick byte in several years yesterday. I do not have a llmd for myself and CANNOT afford one right now. I have to use what ever I can for my kids visits and with the price of things now I have no extra cash at all.
I do however have some 500mg amoxy here that is fresh. I took 1000mg last nite and I have enough for 10 days at that dose (1000mg twice per day).
I also have 9 days of omnicef i could take if necessary.
I don't know a doctor around here who will prescribe doxy profolactically that is my biggest problem. My wonderful MD that was very lyme literate and took my insurance retired last fall.

print out a copy of the CDC or IDSA 'guidelines' (ugh, can't believe I'm saying this) bring that to any MD with you. It suggests something like "if someone is bitten by a deer tick, lives in an endemic area and the tick has been attached for an extended period of time, treat prophyl." I can't imagine any doctor denying you a dose of doxy if you bring that with you.
I don't believe it is worth the money for you to seek the care of a LLMD at this point. If it were me, I'd probably go back to my MDs in about 6 weeks (assuming you don't have any symptoms before that of course) for a lyme test....for what it is worth.

Sorry to hear about the bite. Gotta be a scary feeling!
May I suggest to add to your stash of meds... try a walk-in clinic.
Take the tick with you and that should do it. Once you get a relationship with them, they can help out at other times.
Most take insurance... but do check first.

Hi TC!! yes I have been most fortunate to not need help in a few years. However my kids keep getting re-infected like clockwork. Luckily we have help in that dept.
I was sooo bummed but not surprised to find a tick on me. It is only a matter of time around here and it is HORRIBLE this spring. Its like an invasion of the troops showed up.
You know I first came here for help when my daughter was in 1st grade and very ill... She is now going to be a freshman in HS and STILL dealing with this crap. I am very fortunate as my llmd for my kids tells me "you are one of the lucky ones that your children respond to therapy". Yes I am but it sure is tiring as it is an issue that NEVER goes away for us (as for many here I know).
