I see my LLND next week. Last month he said he might start me on Biaxin on this next visit. Both my PCP (for what that's worth) and my osteopath say it's a "nasty drug" and I shouldn't take it.
I know many of you have taken it. Any feedback?

CAn't say it really helped me, but it didn't really hurt me, either.

I am currently on biaxin and mepron.
Can't take zith anymore due to ear ringing.
Other than the nasty taste it will leave in your mouth,
I think I've done well on it.
Hugs,
Geneal

I have been taking it for 3 months and it certainly is helping with something -- not sure whether it is lyme or bart, but it is treating something and I do feel better from it.
Made me very fatigued for the first couple of weeks. And yes, you get a metal taste in your mouth, but I really do not mind that!

It was the best drug for me! It does leave a yucky taste in your mouth.

I've taken it in the past along with Mepron. It worked well for me. Much better than zith, which is in the same class.
I agree about the bad taste, and it may make you herx, but wouldn't call it a nasty drug.
Now I've recently re-started it after being off for a year, this time on a Biaxin + Bactrim combo for bart, and it did give me quite a herx.
That seemed to begin to lift until I added in Flagyl, but that's another story. The biaxin alone was not unbearable once the initial herx passed.
I hope it works well for you.

I was on Biaxin/Amox for a little over a year and it did a lot for me. I had the metallic taste at first but other than that it was fine.
Now, Flagyl - that's nasty. But I'll do that one again, too.
Nothin' nastier than this disease!

I currently take Biaxin, Tetracyclin and Mepron. I just started the Mepron, but have taken Biaxin for 2 months and took it 7 years ago with a full recovery (for 5 years, then it all came back ) but the only thing I can say bad about it is the taste it leaves in your mouth.

It's an effective Lyme drug, but just think quarter in your mouth.

I did okay on Biaxin but I am not so sure what it did for me. I was on it for months. I think some people do have problems with it.
I hope you do well on it and see big improvements.

Hi Nana
Biaxin is a Very effective ABX - Usually few side effects except for the Nasty taste you will get in your mouth and Maybe ringing in ears -
Biaxin is Slow acting ABX and usually has to be taken for awhile before good results to happen -
Dont be scared of ABX - No reason --Jay -

It helps me Ive been on it 4 years.
But it also made my MCS worse and gave me chronic vertigo.
I dont wanna blame the drug, I think it was toxin overload or something.
I still have my faith that one day the spinning will stop.

I have been on it 1.5 years it cleared Bart for me according to my LLMD.
I never had the after taste so many report, not once or any other side effect. I never herxed when I started it either.
Sometimes I wonder if is doing anything, kind of like taking a placebo. I have taken it with Amoxicillin and now Bicillin.
This drug...don't fear..I fear everything and herx like crazy on everything, this drug was mild for me.

Years ago I took it for sinus infections until I realized it gave me insomnia. Duck thought I was nuts. Now I realize I was really herxing back then.
I've been on it for almost a year now and take it with Mepron and artemisinin for Babs, and who knows what else.
In the old days I did get the after taste, but now I don't even notice it.
It's definitely still working because I am herxing like he**. Posted by Mommy*of*3 (Member # 11688) on :
I took it a while back and had a love/hate relationship with it. It made me very nauseous for a while and I could tell the very second it began to hit my blood stream due to the metalic taste. But after 2 weeks on it I began to feel really good for a while.
It didn't last, but for a while I felt great. So I'm guessing it cleared some stuff out then it was time to move on to the next abx.

Hi! Does anyone feel like the antibiotics in pill form are not as strong then the IV . Because I'm going to be changing pills and then going on the IV. Does anyone have experience with it? And if so, did you get sick and herx, before getting better?? Posted by NanaDubo (Member # 14794) on :
Thanks everyone - mixed bag on biaxin but I guess that is to be expected. Funny thing about the metallic taste. I already have that!
Since I'm not even on Biaxin yet, wonder what that's all about?
