I have an amalgam filling that my dentist says needs to be replaced due to wear & tear. My dentist feels that amalgam fillings are safe but has agreed to replace the filling using a different material. In regard to
replacing my remaining amalgam fillings my dentist says that it is illegal to do so unless they are in need of replacement due to wear & tear, etc.
Are there any safety procedures I should be taking before or during the filling replacement? Has anyone heard of the "illegal" explanation that I was given?

your dentist isn't up to date. two years ago they proved amalgams are harmful. very recently the protocols were changed. many dentists have quietly stopped using amalgams in the last few years...they make up excuses and don't say the studies now show how bad they are.
there is info on here about it. there are special dentists trained to replace the amalgams safely.
i don' believe it is illegal to do the others, but i know dentists were threatened with losing their license in the past if they admitted amalgams are unhealthy.

It is not illegal unless your State has some specific law against it and I can't imagine that. It would be illegal to charge your insurance company if your dentist lied and told them that the filling needed to be replaced.
Most people go to a biological dentist to have amalgams removed. At least people who are concerned about amalgams. Biological dentists have special training. People who are already sick or who have certain genetic issues should be very careful about who they have remove amalgams since some people get very sick as a result.

Please, Go see a biological dentist..a good one, shop the websites, and if they talk about it and explain danger of mercury and the take off protocol, than it sound good!
Taking off amalgams without precaution can intoxicate you with mercury! More than having it in your mouth..
And it is soo important with the lyme to not be more intoxicate by heavy metal. So take it seriously, it could bring your lyme sooo worst..

That's crazy! I never heard that removing fillings is illegal. I live in NJ & I had some of my fillings removed because they were mercury.
I would definitely find another dentist. There are alot around just looking for business.
I used a regular dentist to remove some of my fillings. My dentist was nice & he went along with the things I wanted to do.
Things you need to do are:
1. have the dentist use a dental dam so they don't drop the mercury or vapors down your throat
2. use alot of suction during the whole procedure
3. use some kind of mask on your nose to prevent breathing in mercury vapor during the drilling process
4. take chlorella prior to having the fillings removed & take some vitamin C after & continue to use the chlorella
5. have the fillings removed one or 2 at a time - don't have too many teeth done at once. Wait awhile before having more fillings removed - like a couple of months
Other people may know more things to do to detoxify after. Some "holistic" dentists are a rip-off, so try to find a dentist that is skilled & pleasant to deal with.

I had my fillings removed and insurance covered it ... they were old enough to qualify for needing to be replaced. I did it in stages with a mercury-free dentist (www.mercuryfreedentists.com). I also took many supplements to help get rid of the newly released mercury.
Your dentist is typical. The ADA is standing behind their "amalgams are safe" mentality even in the face of the FDA saying they release neurotoxins and are not good for the immunocompromised.
I'd see a mercury-free dentist for proper removal. Improper removal can cause you even more health problems. Your dentist is sure to use improper removal techniques.

When I was healthy, I had 12 amalgams. My regular dentist replaced nine of them that were breaking down with age. Thankfully, he replaced them with resin and not more amalgam. I had no obvious side effects but this is at the same time I first came down very ill with lyme.
In 2006, after my second bout with the lyme, I went to a biological dentist to remove the remaining 3 amalgams. He charged me $420 to do so and I felt this was reasonable.
At the time, I had arthritis so bad in my jaw from the lyme that I could barely open my mouth. It was tricky for him to even do the work. Two weeks afterward, my jaw was fine and has never reoccurred.
I did get an IV of Vit C after removing the mercury.

Your dentist sounds just like my "old" dentist.
My Lyme Dr. requested that I get all of my mercury replaced at my first visit. My dentist said he would only do it if I wanted it for "cosmetic" reasons and that Mercury fillings were perfectly safe.
I went to the dentist my Lyme Dr recommended and he said he would never do it for cosmetic reasons but for medical purposes only and that if my Dr. wanted them replaced he would to it.
you can find a good dentist in your area from this site. You need to make sure when the remove the current filling it is done properly.

The removed amalgam has to be disposed of as toxic waste, it is illegal to do otherwise.
