i've had stomach problems ever since i had my gallbladder out in 1997.
but it could have been the lyme causing it?
I'm tired of being told i have IBS i could scream.
Every time I take antibiotics tho, my stomach starts hurting...
so could it be the lyme causing all these stomach/intestional problems or can lyme cause these?

both have caused me gi symptoms.
Certain abx I have taken(particularly doxy) have been very rough on my stomach.
But my GI symptoms in general started when all the other symptoms (joint pain, fatigue, etc.) started -
And i didnt have any abx until i was diagnosed which was 13 years after getting sick.
I am not really sure if it is the lyme or one of the other tbds but one of them has liked to effect my stomach over the years.

Also without a gallbladder I think some people have more problems with fats.
They thought that after I had my gallbladder out I might have sphintor of odi dystfunction.
There is still a little tube that connects to the gallbladder that stays in and it can spasm and create pain.
It turned out that it was my gastroparesis flaring which i do believe to be caused by one of the tbds I have.

The parasites I got as a result of being sick caused more GI trouble than the abx. As my Lyme and parasites have been treated, I have no more GI problems even though I am still on abx.
Occasionally I'll get nausea from the meds, but that's it.

Hi Randi,
Some antibiotics are very harsh on the stomach. You didnt mention what meds you are taking but you need to check to make sure you are taking them properly. You may want to mention your symptoms to your doctor.
If you are on doxycycline, it can cause much discomfort especially if you take it on an empty stomach. You need to drink lots of water with it and do not take dairy or lay down within 1/2 hour of taking it or you can damage your esophogus. And doxy makes you extremely sensitive to sun burn. Take the literature prescribed with it seriously!
It could be the lyme, but in some people abx can be very irrating the the stomach.
Good luck and hope you feel better!

Lyme definitely caused my initial stomach problems. Antibiotics killing off the good flora just made it worse.
Funny thing is my gastroenterologist is willing to believe my stomach problems are due to some unknown, unnamed virus, but won't accept that it's due to Lyme. Go figure...

Ditto on what Six said about parasites- they caused me lots of stomic pain-
I did 2 rounds of Alinia now my stomic purrs like a kitten -
I eat a half gallon of yogurt a week mixed with Raisin Brand- MMMM
But the Raisin Brand is not a good idea if you are having Candida problems-
Doxi would do a number on my stomic while I was still perty sick but now I have no problem with it--Jay--
