A friend told me she suddenly has "air hunger" and extreme fatigue, but NO night sweats.
Can Lyme cause air hunger?
Or has anyone had babs with air hunger and fatigue but NO night sweats? Maybe the sweats come later in the illness. She's been having air hunger about a week now.
Thanks,
webmeg
PS She tested negative for lyme, of course!!!!

Could still be Babesia even w/out night sweats

Several folks I know, including myself, have babesia without night sweats.
Did your friend do the Igenex FISH test? It checks for more strains of babesia, but by no means is comprehensive.

I have Babesea. I tend to cycle. For a couple of weeks, I ahve air hunger and feeling tired but no night sweats. When night sweats start, the air hunger stops.
I tested negative to Babesea. If parasite load is at less than 5%, you can come up negative. As someone else mentioned, they may have a strain that you can't detect. I think FISH test is good idea. Make sure that they at least test for both Babsea microti AND WA-1. WA-1 is common along west coast

Any other Babs / Air Hunger thoughts are very much appreciated!! Thank you all for your replies.
In this case my friend is in a bit of denial about it all, negative for Lyme (aren't we all). Yet she lives in a BIG TIME endemic area.
Sometimes I think both doctors AND people don't want to acknowledge these diseases, the risks, etc. But once you are in trouble it's all consuming.
Sounds like air hunger is always Babs to you guys?

The Fish only tests two strains of the 13+ known strains.
Mine was negative.
I am on my 3rd round of babesia treatment and still suffering with night sweats and air hunger.
Those co-infection tests are not all that reliable either unless
You have the strain they are testing for.

Hi Meg -
From what I have seen air hunger is caused by babs-
Personally I only had air hunger for about 2 weeks then it went away -I sweat like a pig tho -
Have your friend check body temp several times threw the day - Low temp is a sign of Babs-Jay-

As mentioned in another post I made, mitochondial / metabolic myopathies cause air hunger too. There may be other causes than TBIs. Just a thought.

I have Babesia (along with Lyme, Erlichia, Mycoplasma, and Epstein Barr) and I've never had night sweats.
I had moderate air hunger off and on before I was diagnosed, and I chalked it up to stress. Once I started treatment for Babesia I had pretty severe air hunger for a few days. I actually thought I might pass out.
