I posted another question in regards to detox and i got several responses back mentioning several protocols... i am so confused and don't want to waste money.... there are so many out there so i want to know who got the best results with what...

some of the ones i heard of were:

-shoemaker neurotoxin protocol w/ questran and actos (tested positive on many occassions on the vcs test)

-cowden detox herbs (burbur/parsley/pinella)

-candida detox (have thrush, among other things)

-bioenergetic testing/laser detox

-lymphatic drainage massage (I have major full body edema/weight gain without change in eating and was recommended to this by dr)

(I might do a combo of the best)

I NEED to start some sort of a detox program. I CANNOT due infrared sauna due to a problem w/ my autonomic system and heart rate (I did them before, though) Also detox baths don't do anything for me and i no longer have a bathtub.. only showers.

Thanks for any info. I am so confused and don't know which one to start.

Hello Nancy:
I started by getting off carbs gradually and eventually did a raw food diet based on the book "THe PH Miracle for living" by Dr. R. Young. It follows an alkaline diet and includes testing your PH daily (which can be tricky). I completely changed my lifestyle too and while it was hard and took me 6 months before I noticed any changes, the desperation and debilitation I was living with were enough to keep me motivated on such a stringent plan. I drank wheat grass juice and green juice daily and did not even eat fruit for 3 years because it was so hard for me to get rid of candida.

I took all kinds of supplements and did heavy metal detoxing too. I was soooo terribly ill that I am still in awe of how long it took to recover my health. I went through many herxes and relapses that plunged me into despair for short periods, but the end result was amazing and I am ever so empowered to know that I was able to turn my health around and live symptom free.

There are many paths to healing and not all of them work for all people. I didn't think I could afford to do all that I did, but somehow I managed to rearrange my spending and be as thrifty as I could in order to make it happen.

Lymphatic massage is great - I could only afford to do it occasionally. Ditto with colonics -- they can make a jumpstart difference. I also did a few parasite cleanses and was shocked to see what came out.

If you just start with colon cleansing, drinking lots of water, getting all gluten and carbs out of your diet gradually, and get your body into a more alkaline and oxygenated state your immune system will start to heal itself. IMO it is never too late to start.

Good luck,

The programs that work best for you will depend on your specific problems. Most people will do better with a combination of protocols that target their weaknesses. You will want to start one at a time and go slowly since you may get sicker as you detox. This depends again on your specific problems and how long you've had them.

The Shoemaker protocol helps to address toxins for those who have genetic problems getting rid of biotoxins. If you've tested positive on the VCS test then it seems that you need to do this protocol.

If you have candida, then you need to address the infection. That is not so much a detox protocol but a protocol to kill it. There are lots of posts here about how to address candida. It will include an anti-candida diet.

If you have an LLMD, get his/her help in deciding which protocols to use. If they are not knowledgable with this or you don't have one, then it would be best if you can get the help of an ND (naturopathic doctor) who knows about the challenges of lyme disease.

If none of that is available to you, then you will want to spend time learning about the various detox protocols and what they are used for since they are not all made to address the same problems.

Hi Nancy,

Seems to me you have a pretty solid list there. I would suggest using some of those methods along with perhaps some heavy metal detox.

I suggest that since I have seen repeated research supporting the synergistic relationship of metals (mainly mercury) and candida or other infections.

Coffee enemas also seem to be mentioned a lot and I do not hear much negative feedback. I have had positive experience with them myself and do one a week.

May I ask what type of problems you have with your autonomic nervous system that prevents you from using the Far-Infrared Sauna? I have had some issues with the sauna as well and am curious as to what you mean and how it affects you.

Take care.

I think vitamin C is an amazing healer all the way round and it is cheap.

The web site doctor yourself has the most information about taking C and results. My daughter is the patient and has done the best when she takes a lot of C. Unfortunately I can't get her to take as often as she should.

You do have to space it around other meds or it will flush those also.

Alot of people do coffee enemas. My daughter did one and had very good results, but again she is the patient and I am not. When I did research on them, I was impressed by the study that was done on them.

They cause the liver to dump toxins. Some cancer patients use them as a detox method while they are on chemo.

My daughter did a cholesterol med--different from the one you mentioned--and it just added to her toxic level. She has done better on apple pectin and beta-sisterol which you can get at health food stores.

We have used burbur and it has seemed to help. It would be my favorite of the list you posted. Sorry I can't remember the other things you mentioned.

I know I added some other things and I hope I didn't confuse you more. You are on the right track by choosing one or two things to try instead of several. Good luck.
