Hi: I have been throwing up a lot since being bitten in April/May. My symptoms started with headache and throwing up for two days in a row. For me throwing up once in every five years was a lot for me..I seem to used to have a stomach of steel. Since I have started taking doxy and cefdinir, I throw up at least once a week, and then after that and then I have no energy at all. Is this more likely a herx or that I took meds at a bad time..such as stomach not full enough? The only herx reactions I think I have had so far are neck pain and pain in one of my wrists. Is throwing up from a herx? Thanks. Posted by Meg (Member # 22) on :
Doxycycline needs to be taken with food, otherwise you'll have spontaneous vomiting. Did it start after taking the Doxy or before??
If after, take with or after a full meal. If this fails to work for you, try Doryx which won't affect your stomach.

Sorry to hear you are going through this. I do know that Doxy has a bad reputation for nausea.
Do make sure you ALWAYS take it on a full stomach AND make sure you don't recline for 20 minutes to an hour after taking it.
Those two were recommended to me and seemed to help a LITTLE. I also lived on ginger tea. Worked better than most any over the counter med and the tea actually was addicting. Loved it.
Good luck to you.

I am also taking doxy and cefdinir. Really struggled with the stomach problems at first, but am doing better. As others have mentioned, I always take it on a full stomach, and usually wait till after lunch for my first dose.
Also, I noticed that when I began being faithful with the probiotics that my stomach problems stopped completely. I take 4-6 probiotic pills a day, and try to vary the strands between days.
Hope you find relief soon!

If you are overproducing serotonin, this causes N/V.
Serotonin locks onto sialic acid.
In one way, it is protective because the biofilm that Bbs make is made of proteins + sialic acid.
So, by overproducing serotonin, the level of sialic acid would drop.
