hi, was diagnosed with lyme one week ago - I had a positive western blot. initially went to a neurologist because I'd been having vertigo, pressure in head, tingling, nausea, etc. for at least a few months and he suggested I be tested for lyme. he also signed me up for an mri and, depending on results, a spinal tap. he put me on 100mg doxycycline 2x per day for 4 weeks. he will also do a repeat western blot 4 weeks after I've completed my meds, so in other words, 8 weeks from when I started them. my question is, how do I know what stage I'm in? the other symptoms I've read about are so generic I can't tell how long I've been having them, altho the ones I mentioned above have only been present since early spring. And what are my chances of a full recovery? This website is a great resource but is scaring me out of my wits.

You are in the same boat I am. Sounds like me... I was tested positive in Apr when I started feeling numbness on my leg and being dizzy.
I was on 20 days of doxy, doctor said I was going to be fine. Well that was not the case. Still felt bad. He referred me to a Neurologist.
Did blood work and scans and MRI's felt like a lab rat. All test came up normal. Except I was postive for Lyme on IGM not IGG and Postive for banf 25 OSPC.
Said the doxcy was enough.. Nope it was not... Went to my doctor and I recieved 14 days of rocephin infusion, only 14 days, been off treatment 2 weeks and I still feel groggy.
What are your symptoms?

Oh by the way he told me to get a spinal tap as well... I did not go through, but its not worth it, from what I been told. Most of the time the borreliosis won't show up.....I have vertigo as well and still have it

It is Not a good idea to get a spinal tap-(ST) they usually come back negative and are not used by Any LLMD that I have heard of-
ST are Very painful and somewhat dangerous-
You say that you have the symptoms listed sence spring time--
Did you feel OK before then ?? List those symptoms--
The amount of doxi for early treatment is usually 400to 600mg aday -
Low dose of doxi (200mg) is not very effective for lyme - Higher dose works Much Better-
Momo - it is a good idea to break up the paragraph you wrote -
Your posts should be formatted similar to mine- Most people with lyme find it Very hard to read big blocks of type --

Hi groovy, I have to check when I get home how many grams of doxy I have? I only took 17 pills anyways.

Probably early, unless you've had it longer than since this spring.
Forget the spinal tap. See the other thread here about them. They are 20% effective in finding Lyme.

My spinal tap didn't show anything and I did have active Lyme at the time. Also it took so long to heal, I had to have two blood patches done and it was painful and the spinal headaches are just as bad if not worse than the Lyme headaches (vice-like).

Do not do a spinal tap. They are extremely inaccurate. All Lyme test are inaccurate. 50% of people with LD will test negative on a WB. A good LLMD can diagnose you clinically. And don't worry, LD is very curable. It may take a while and the road is tough, but it can be cured.
