My 5 yo dd is on 400 mg/d azithromycin and mepron (not sure of dose 1/4 tsp).
She's been on it since Feb 07 with marvelous results.
She has lost most joint pain, eye pain, most abdominal pain, suicidal thoughts, fatigue, depression, burning urination, stabbing eye pain, lack of appetite, night sweats, fevers, night terrors.
She still has some ab pain, some knee pain. But if we miss a few doses, she starts getting achy.
Still, her disposition is radically better. Total change in kid within 10 days of starting treatment. Every face she drew for 18 months after infection had a frown. After starting tx, within 10 days every facehad a smile.

my little one, 10, doesnt have a lot of symptoms all the time. they seem sporadic and occasional. she had high fever for a week with weird sensations she described as water or electricity flowing in her hands. of course i knew what she meant! lol
but her knee will hurt - her foot locks up - her stomach will bother her - she will be anxious - her cognitive comes and goes but it isnt like she is "sick" except when she had the fever and every once in a while as well she will get down
but all in all not bad. it is a tough spot bc she did test CDC positive and ELISA positive. STILL waiting to hear back from dr though!
Not sure if we should push for treatment but after seeing her go through the fever episode if it ever does get hold and keeps hold she could go down so hard and fast.
it is scary and i feel at wits end with this - not sure what to do or not to do!!!!
concerned her pediatrician will blow it off as he hasnt returned call since i sent the fax results friday.

amox has worked great when blood levels of
20-25 are reached - for us anyway

walk - to back to playing sports (she can run
again!!!!) Posted by nancyb (Member # 10154) on :
Both my girls did amoxi for Lyme and then went on Rifampin and Azithromycin for Bart. The nice thing about Zithro is that it works on Lyme as well.
Daughter #1 - bit at age 6, undiagnosed until age 9 and she is now 11 and is cured after 2 years of treatment.
Daughter #2 - bit at age 7, treatment started at age 8 and is almost cured at age 9.
#1 had varying amounts of amoxi - from 1500-4000mg/day. #2 could never take more than 1500mg.
Rifampin 300mg/day and Zithro 250mg/day with no side effects and very little herxing.

Ceftin is usually used when the child is allergic to penicillan/amox, which my son is.
Ceftin alone didn't cut it, so zith was added in, he was able to tolerate both well, and showed improvement up to a point, but plateaued.
So the Cetin was replaced with Suprax. Suprax alone resulted in a full return of symptoms, so zith was brought back on board, based on this, the doc felt that we were also dealing with bart.
Currently, he is taking mepron and zith (for babs), and almost symptom free. Currently he seems to be having temporal lobe seizure activity (which may or may not be caused by lyme), and the potty remains an issue (this also may or may not be lyme.)
The mood swings, impusive/aggressive behavior, aches and pains, too tired to walk that we seen over the past year seems to be gone, hopefully for good. It's been close to a month now, so I'm allowing myself gaurded optimism.
The appropriate medication regime will depend on your child, age, weight, what co-infections are present, and how far the disease has progressed.
I hope our experience with our son is helpful to you,
kp

Thanks to you all...we go in in the morning and will see what the plan is.
I just dont know if you treat if they are not really heavy in symptoms or just sit and wait?? That is the hardest part! I dont WANT to risk...
Then again i did the same thing 9 years ago - high fever, malaise, headache, etc and that went away and since then it has been progressive and downward spiral...slowly progressive....

I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter with congenital lyme.
She is doing 1 month of ceftin, 1 month of zithromx, then 1 month of flagl. After that she will start babesia treatment and go back to the LLMD.
