LLMD wants to put me on IV but I would rather try bicillin shots first. He says Im a bit too skinny for them and that it would be painful. He says I could do it but it would hurt. (Plus I barely have ANY fat in the butt area where your supposed to take them) Has anyone else who is thin been able to tolerate it??

I am not "thin-thin", but average thin, and I have done bicillin shots before. Yes, they hurt, but not so much that I would avoid them if my doc suggested them again. Some people ice the area beforehand, some use lidoderm patches (although I don't know how "deep" the patches work- like into the muscle or just subcutaneously), or the like to numb things up.

i was super thin and my llmd said it would be ok as they give them to kids.
I have never tried them though. Only thing i could think of is do some excercises to build up the gluttes, maybe?

A friend of mine is very slender and the Bicillin shots did hurt her, so she had the nurse mix the Bicillin with lidocaine in a new syringe.
I had Bicillin injections for over a year and most of the time they didn't hurt too badly (I have more natural padding than my friend does), I did ice beforehand and often used lidoderm patches. As long as the nurse injected very slowly, they were not too painful.I did not need to have the Bicillin mixed with lidocaine, but as I say, my very slender friend found it necessary.

I was VERY thin when did 9 months of Bicillin shots. Only weighed 103 lbs at the time, and had no fat on my butt!
But I managed ok - iced up beforehand, used heat afterwards, massaged area well etc. Some hurt alot and others did not hurt at all.
I think we may have same LLMD ??( in Hyde Park,NY), and yes, he was amazed I could continue for so long, but you should def give them a try. If it's too hard you can always just stop them.

The nurse at my docs office mixes lidocaine with the bicillin. I'm a little sore sometimes but it's really not bad. I'm fairly thin.
The nurse is also a massage therapist and rubs my back with her free hand during the shot since it 5 minutes. Nice bonus.

Hi Trish,
I was 100 pounds (5 '5' in height so very thin) when i did bicillin shots and i didnt find it a problem. they only hurt after i had finished the shots, but the shots themselves were no big deal. I actually learned how to give them to myself as that way i was more able to do it in a way that would hurt the least. i think its good to inject slowly as that is the least uncomfortable way at least for me. they helped me alot so hope they help you too!!

Use an ice pack on your butt for ten minutes before you stick the shot in -- it helps a lot. Why don't you ask your doc if it would be okay to stick the shot in 3/4 of the way or so, or if you need to stick it in all the way.

Nope, I couldn't do it. I was thin and lifted weights, so what was there was all muscle. I did one shot, then moved on to something else.
That being said, I know someone thinner than me who never had more than minimal pain .... she doesn't lift weights.
So, I think there are several variables.

Thank you all for responding Yes my Dr. is in Hyde Park and he did mention to me that he's seen thinner take the shots without much of a problem. Well Im def going to look into the shots rather than IVs for now. Thanks again : )
