I'm doing oral antibiotics right now...is there an advantage to doing IV? It's alot more expensive but I'm willing to pay the difference if it's worth the cost.

from my experience---I took orals 3 times and then the last time I had the IV and the IV just worked for me. It seemed that when my lyme was at its worst I needed the IV.

I have done orals for 20 months. I definitely had MAJOR improvement in that time but started falling backwards pretty hard the last couple of months.
So on Friday, I have having a port put in for IV abx. So until I get that in, I really can't comment.
I know I've heard mixed reviews, being that there is more risk of something going wrong, but mostly people saying they got better.
It really depends on your doctor and how sick you were when you started since I know that many have made full progress with orals as well.
We are all individuals and different, so it's hard for any of us to tell you what you need to do, but I do hope you will keep us up to date on what you and your doctor decide.

UGH...I've been on orals and recently IM for four years, and I am SCREAMING for IVs. They are coming soon.
I feel I am waaaaay long overdue. I am praying they will help me. I was pushing for the IV Tigecycline, but I'm not hearing anything good about it from those who are using it. So I guess I will go for Rocephin.
I just want to get there already, but LLMD is sending me for a zillion tests first and I am too sick to get to the appts. I already blew off two this week.
What a cluster***k.

If orals aren't quite cutting it, but you're not sure if IV is necessary, there's also the inbetween of Intramuscular Injections. Dr. Burrascano states that IM injections of bicillin are actually pretty CLOSE to IV as far as effectiveness in many people with lyme. Maybe talk to your lyme doctor about this one. Bicillin injections cross the blood brain barrier quite well.
