My 4 yaer old son is complaining of stomach aches every morning and sometimes during the day. I think it's from the meds (zith and bactrim), as when his stomach is full it seems better. He is waking up early in the morning from it and it is affecting his sleep.

Has anyone had this? What should I do? I plan to contact the LLMD tomorrow, but would like to hear if anything helped you keep your stomach happy.

thanks,

tickbattler

I get stomach aches from my Zithromax. However, it usually starts 2 or 3 hours after I take it, then I have loose stools or diarrhea (maybe a couple times that day).

So it is a little odd he wakes up first thing in the morning with a stomach ache. Does he take Zithro right before bed?

I have never taken Bactrim that I can recall.

Hope that helps.

Zith kills my gut! I have never had bactrim, so cannot speak about it.

I get horrible stomach pain from zithro.

I take it on a full stomach too. .

Even now, I still get stomach pain...just once in awile though. I guess it's better taken without food but I just can't handle that.

I would probably bet it's mostly caused by the zithro. i take the bactrim at the same time but I have had the same issues while only on the zithro.

I hope your little one is feeling better soon.

Thank you all for your comments. It looks like it's probably the zith.

I do always give it to him with breakfast and then at dinner. Tonight I gave him a snack with milk before bed in the hopes that his tummy doesn't hurt in the morning.

If this doesn't help, I am not sure what else I can do!

THanks,

Tickbattler,

I have heard Zithromax stays in your system for 24 hours. Ask your LLMD, but you may be able to give him both pills in the morning, and none at night.

I take two pills per day, and my LLMD told me I could take them both in the morning if I wanted, though I split it up.

If he doesn't take it before bed, maybe he won't wake up with an upset stomach. He may have a worse stomach during the day though.

Or, maybe you could give him half of it at 8 AM and the other half at 3 PM.

I would definitely talk to your doc, but that may be a real possibility!

I take my Zithromax with watermelon or soy shake then 1/2 our later I drink my fresh squeezed lemon juice that I drink slowing with a straw this helps with nausea.

Zith hurts my stomach also, but extra probiotics have helped some.

I had the opposite problem with zith.

The worst stomach ache ever if I took it with food. [Eek!]

I had to take it at least one hour past meals.

I took bactrim without any stomach issues.

Hope your little one gets feeling better soon.

Oh and I have no issues with biaxin (which I am on) either.

Hugs,

Geneal

My now nine year old daughter started her treatment for TBDs when she was four. Still being treated.

In the beginning, and she has been on zithro the entire 5 years, the bactrim caused her horrible stomach pain.

WE removed the bactrim and she was hugely improved. She has stayed on zithro.

Now at year 5,(she had a trial 3 months off meds and regressed considerably) she is getting tummy pains and gass. We have had to increase her diflucan, and she MUST take probiotics twice a day, once in the morning, and once before bed.

That way, she stays feeling well.

Hope that helps.
