i was on levaquin for two weeks and then he switched me to cipro for another 2 weeks.
my knees have been hurting constantly but today is much worse.
the back of my ankles are burning and it hurts to walk. my legs woke me up last night cramping around the knee. my arms and legs are warm to the touch and normally they are ice cold, like an iceberg.
i walk doubled over and it's very painful.
i have stopped the cipro.
i am so afraid because my feet are cramping now and my toes hurt. the large muscle in the top of my legs are cramping also.
i am in a lot of pain.
i was not having any problems with my legs before i started the levaquin/cipro.
i am praying that it's nothing permanent. i'll make an appt with my primary tomorrow.
right now i am icing the ankles and knee.
can anybody offer suggestions?
i am so scared. the pain is making me throw up...
can you please help?
or is this just a damn herx??

Sorry your in so much pain randibear.
I have horrible cramps that sometimes leave bruises. Im not sure ice would loosen up those muscles. I found that wet heat works really good for me. I use wet towels soaked in hot water,(only as hot as you can tollerate), ring out so not too drippy, wrap around knees or whatever is cramping.
Then wrap that with plastic wrap or even a trash bag, it helps to keep the heat in.
It takes a little while but it seems to work for me.
I truly hope this works for you too.

PS..just another thought.Just guessing here. It could also be a sudden drop in your potasium level. If you can keep it down and you have any try eating a banana or something high in potasium.

You need to call your LLMD TODAY. I had that terrible knee pain and my LLMD determined it was a herx. In the end, it was.
However, some people get tendonitis from Levaquin/Cipro. You want to talk to your LLMD about whether he thinks the ankle pain is tendonitis. It could be a herx, but you need your LLMD to determine that.
Levaquin gave me the most pain of any medication I have taken .... but it also gave me the most progress.

I'm sorry you are hurting so much. I have lots o herx'n in my joints from Zithromax. I found that Watkins Liniment helps a lot (it's in a glass bottle and it's red liquid) I get it at Walgreens
