Just curious? Is it really strong? What are the side effects or is it just really bad herxes and what do they feel like? I was just rxd this but can't start it yet until I get my IV set up.

I think for most of us it is the bad herxes. I know i have pretty hard herxes off flagyl.

You asked about possible side effects. I know one of the possible side effects is that Flagyl can cause neuropathy.

Also NO alchol if you are taking flagyl... they dont mix.

Best wishes [Smile]

3 weeks of nausea and overall feeling quite badly everytime I try it. I do not have the same experience with Tindamax so I am not sure it is a Flagyl die-off as much as just a side effect of the drug - though difficult to really know.

Are you taking any abxs now?

Flagyl, for me, means enormous herxes. And also a major increase in peripheral neuropathy.

The peripheral neuropathy can be a side effect of flagyl, and in a very few of us it can take a long time to subside.

Since neuropathy is one of my worst symptoms anyway, I've found that Tindamax is more tolerable. Still get tremendous herxes (it's also a cyst buster) but not the same level of burning pain in hands/feet.

Good luck with your IV!

I start Flagyl one week before I can get my IV set up. That will be in the next couple of weeks, after I figure out the money/insurance situation. [Frown]

Nessa - I LOVE Flagyl. It always makes me feel better - it lifts my brain fog and energy tremendously within days of starting it.

I know that several others who post here have had the same response. It does seem however, that there is no "middle of the road" with it - you either love it or hate it.

Think positive - you may be one of the lucky ones on this stuff. If not - still try and be positive - herxing equals killing!

the drugs in that family can be neurotoxic

It can be hard on the liver. I am sure your LLMD will be monitoring your liver through testing while you are on it or at least I hope so. It is good to get kidney panels done while on abx too.

It gave me peripheral neuropathy that has lasted for months since I went off of it. This was the second time I used it -- the first time was fine.

I'm still praying this side effect goes away. For a few weeks, it literally felt constantly like fire was being poured over my hands when something as soft as cotton touched them. It's not that bad now, but it is now in my feet as well as hands.

Be careful if you any any numbness, tingling, or pin prick sensations in your hands, fingers, arms, toes, etc. If so, stop Flagyl immediately and do not wait. My LLMD advised me to cut back the dose when the symptoms started, and I continued for a few days before stopping. I wish I had stopped immediately because those extra few days might have made the difference.

My sis did 2 rounds of Tinidazole (3rd generation Flagyl, more expensive, less side effects).

It didn't cure her.

Neither did IV Rocephin, Mepron with Azith, Doxy, etc.

This is one peculiar mean bug.

We need to think outside the box.

Look at the pathways it takes and for some gutsy folks, figure out how to disrupt those pathways.

It can and has been done.

I am not a fan of high dose Benicar, but I BELIEVE those who said it worked for them.

That drug is NOT an antibiotic.

Take a straw and pretend it is Bb. Now roll it up.

How hard do you think it would be to penetrate the cell walls now?

Just my guess.

Turned me into a zombie while on it, and gave me a bad nasty case of systemic fungus that I am still fighting off.

But it really knocked down my lyme load, along with a Bicillin subsitute. One of those love hate relationships you could say.

I'm w/ Bejoy....love hate relationship.

It made my peripheral neuropathy worse, gave me thrush, made me an emotional fruitcake [dizzy] , I would boo-hoo over everything and I felt like I had been hit by a truck!

After a few days all above gone except I was left w/ the lovely present of thrush.

I'd still take it and I do.

I tried 1/4 pill of Flagyl for 3 days. My fatigue and malaise intensified, but the emotional herxes! Just awful. I was so depressed and cried off and on all day. Not for me.

I went back to my Ceftin and I can enjoy life somewhat again.

what about at a lower dose? Dr B talks about this as a possibility.

I was nervous when they added in IV Flagyl with the IV Rocephin my husband was taking. Flagyl? isn't that the one everyone has so much trouble with?

Well, it's been beautiful. Finally, something that works almost as soon as you take it. It's helped incredibly with energy

I LOVE Flagyl. In fact, as crazy as it sounds, I've even acquired a taste for it.

It's the one antibiotic I can always fall back on when every other one seems to be killing me.

I never had any problems with it unless I drank to much beer then I would wheez some people get really upset stomachs with alcohol throw up.

Im with Tailz in that I love Flagyl. I also love what it does to my bowels.

I have been on it off and on for 3 years.

The longest on was 6 months.

Never noticed anything as far as increased nuropathy.

Im pretty much screwed in that area anyway.

If anything it helps my nerve pain and my brain!!!!!!!!

Ive been looking for more explanations on this drug and I cant find any.

The only reason I think that it could have in making me feel better is that is disrupts the Lyme flagellan therefore slowing it down!

Both Flagyl and Tindamax hurt my stomach worse than anything I've taken.

They make things taste bad. I lost weight taking them because I didn't want to eat. But I had to eat to take the pills.

Flagyl is worse because it has to be taken three times a day.

I'm not sure what other effects they had, good or bad. My poor stomach was sure happy every time I stopped taking them.

Probaly have H pylori thats why your stomach throws fits give it long enough and stomach will settle down also make sure your taking probiotics at least 2 hrs after abx.

Sends me into deep depression.

Flagyl was by far the worst toxic drug I've ever taken. I could only do it for two weeks and then had to stop.

It's a drug that it's side effects are sometimes worse than the disease itself. Felt like I was being poisioned the whole time I took it.

Personally, I love flagyl and tinni. I've been on daily doses for about a year (tinni right now) and feel that I would not have seen any, or way less, improvement without adding to my regime.

I have had episodes of neuropathy. I had to stop taking tinni for about a month but went back on it again and have been OK with it since.

All docs warn to get your liver and kidneys checked out monthy via blood tests with flagyl and tinni.
