Who out there has had babesia duncani and how long were you treated for it? What worked? What didn't work?
I am currently taking Mepron (2 tsp twice a day), 500 mg zithromax once a day, and artimisinin (300 mg / day).
I have been on this protocol for babs for three months now.
I THINK my babs symptoms are gone now, but how can I be sure? Should I keep treating even after symptoms are gone like we do with lyme?
I still have a very, very slight pain in my heart area once in a great while now.
Every once in a while my forehead will get sweaty.
How do you know for sure when your babs symptoms are gone?
I've heard that some people's LLMD's treat them for babs duncani for a minimum of 10 months. Is this typical?
I don't think my lyme doctor has plans for me to be on babs treatment for anymore than another month or so. Should I be on it for longer?
I'd appreciate any replies.

Hi Lymer-
Babs takes a Long treatment - alot depends on how long you have been sick-
How long have you been sick??
How long have you been treated?? --Jay

does the length of time depend on how bad your symptoms were to begin with as well?
ie. a slight case woouldn't take as long.
Have you had coverage for long term mepron?
I'm afraid my HMO won't pay beyond the 13 days ( think that's what's normally recommended for babs) So it could be thousands out of my own pocket!
Can't and won't do that.

Jay,
I've been sick with lyme, babs, and erlichia for five years undiagnosed and untreated.
I have been in treatment for babs now for three months.
Marz,
I don't exactly know what my coverage is for the Mepron. I just know that the insurance company has paid for it each time my LLMD prescribed it for me (three months worth so far).

Hey Lymer--
Most likely it will take a year or more of treatment but you may get lucky and have treatment over in less time - but dont count on it---
Babs is a Really Tuff bug and Hard to kill- relaps is common - wish I had better news-

I was positive for Babs Duncanii. I was on Mepron for a year, along with Biaxin and artemisinin.
Then my LLMD wanted me to stop the Mepron and Biaxin. Said he doesn't like people to remain on same abx more than a year. Now I am on Bactrim and an increased dose of artemisinin.
Babs Duncanii takes longer to clear that microti does. I have been ill over 40 years, in tx a little over two.
