Was diagnosed via western blot from Quest on 7/2 with lyme.
Started doxy 100mg 2x per day for 11 days, switched to amoxy 500mg 3x per day for 7 days..
then docs got worried about lyme meningitis because of stiffness/burning in neck and back.
Switched immediately off amoxy to IV ceftriaxone 2g 1x per day; have been doing this for the last 12 days.
Question is, I feel no relief. I herxed badly on doxy, don't know if the fact that I am still feeling poorly with burning neck/back means I am still herxing.
Seems like ceftriaxone has worked for so many people here.
What does it mean that I am not showing improvement?
Please help, am so scared of this disease.

Treating Lyme isn't like the usual things we treat with antibiotics where you take the pill and within 24 hours POOF the disease goes away. I'm sorry to say that this might take some time. The good thing is you are getting treatment.

i'm really sorry you're going through this.
yes, unfortunately this disease requires utmost patience. it is not a quick fix by any means.
do you have an LLMD (lyme-literate doc)? someone who can help you through the long haul, if that becomes necessary? if not, please post in 'seeking a doctor' and someone will help you out there.

Hang in there! I agree with what was said above; it does take time and great patience to get over lyme.
And it is important that you see a lyme literate doctor so that you can be evaluated for tick-borne coinfections too. Many llmds might prescribe higher dosages of the initial doxy and amoxy.

Patience is definitely not one of my virtues...just another thing this disease will teach me, I guess.
I am scheduled to see an LLMD in a few days. Hopefully she agrees with the current course of meds since high doses of meds don't agree with me.

You also want to make sure you were tested for coinfections. You can, unfortunately, get more than one disease from a tick bite; bartonella, babesia, ehrlichia, mycoplasma and Rocky Mtn Spotted Fever to name a few.
The antibiotics you're taking won't hit these different infections as some of them are parasites and require anti-malarial meds to kill.
NOT trying to scare you...just want you to rule everything out at once so you can get on with your life. It's great that you got a diagnoses right away but I do agree that seeking out a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor would be in your best interest.
You can goto the Seeking Doctor forum and request LLMD's in your area.
Like the others' said, it just takes some time so this treatment requires some patience and that's really hard to have when you're scared.
Be thankful that you got a correct diagnoses and, as I type, you are killing it.
