A dramatic tale of microbes, medicine and money, this eye-opening film investigates the untold story of Lyme disease, an emerging epidemic larger than AIDS. Each year thousands go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, told that their symptoms are "all in their head." Following the stories of patients and physicians as they battle for their lives and livelihoods, the film brings into focus a haunting picture of our health care system and its ability to cope with a silent terror under our skin.

Is there anyone from the trumbull area who wouldn't mind giving me ride? i'd be more than happy to pitch in for gas! I've been really wanting to see this movie but haven't yet had the chance. Thanks!

cowphunk, i'd take you but I'm working 'til 6 and will be running late as it is...
However, i'm going to try to get a copy for my local library. My library participates in inter-library loans and will loan DVDs to other libraries in the state...
Everyone should remember that you can get a lot of hard to find material through the inter-library loan service of your local library...
A quick check of the state library catalog yielded no results for "Under Our Skin" so I'll try to remedy that soon... Posted by bettyg (Member # 6147) on :

to all,
i've read every post since this first came out and did not see or REMEMBER reading how we could go about having community viewings of this OUTSTANDING UNDER OUR SKIN LYME DOCUMENTARY!
so i'm going to post more details direct from UNDER OUR SKIN PRODUCER, EVE ....
NOTE: last email deals with my suggestion to have DR. JONES DEFENSE FUND "DONATION" JARS AT ALL SCREENING!!! ******************************
HI Betty -
Once you organize your screening let me know the details and we can send you some DVDs to sell. **********************************************

It's FANTASTIC that you folks have allowed folks to have FREE viewings!! ***********************
I thought they all were PAY VENUES; so glad you clarified that.
I'm going to emphasize that on lymenet.org so others will pursue buying the the DVD FOR COMMUNITY viewing so lyme patients/family can watch this FREE!!! Betty G**********************************************
Betty - I have forwarded you the info on how to organize a screening. Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks for writing and for your idea about raising money for Dr. Jones. ***************************
Unfortunately it would be very difficult for us to coordinate a fundraising jar to be at all the paying venues.
So far there are not many paying venues. Most of the screenings being organized are community screenings with no admission charge. *********************************************
But we certainly suggest to people that contact us to set up a Dr. Jones contribution jar.
SO i hope more of you will approach someone in your city or a larger city about SHOWING UNDE ROUR SKIN THERE AS "COMMUNITY" VIEWING ... FREE!!
Director Andy A. Wilson has been very generous offering this to lyme patients/families free to see this outstanding documentary!!

I made it there despite back-to-back thunderstorms in the New Haven area.
The movie is nicely done. When they interject the controversial aspects of the disease, it gets a little annoying at times, especially since Shapiro and company denounce chronic lyme swiftly but never offer and of "their" own science to back up their points....
Pleasant surprise--Pamela Weintraub was there after the movie giving a talk. There were other speakers and Dr. Jones' birthday celebration as well...
UNFORTUNATELY, the DVD was not available for purchase there despite some rumors to the contrary...
However, there were DVDs from the University of New Haven's previous conferences...
Professor Sapi also mentioned that a recent study of Fairfield County (CT) indicated that roughly 62% of deer ticks carry the lyme bacteria...not counting the co's....
