p. 246, Singleton's "The Lyme Disease Solution" speaks to this.
It is a type of a penicillin - a cephaloaporin (two other drugs in this class are rocephin and claforan) - 600 mg once a day.
Liver monitoring and regular blood work on white blood count are best while on cephalosporins. But it is a solid drug that, with a combined protocol, can really help.

Disseminated - means past the early stage and has become systemic. Treatment usually takes longer and may be more complex, but it sounds like you have a good doctor and a good chance.

Oh, just a reminder to avoid sun while on doxycycline - even through a car or house window - or "bounced" from water or glass.
Even if you sit under shade, extra protection (umbrella, long sleeve cotton tight weave shirt, etc.

I did VERY well on Omnicef (cefdinir) and took it for 4 months. I think I plateaued on it and doc switched me to Biaxin XL.

My answer:: So far so good. The only side effect I am seeing is a headache. But the headache was there before the antibiotics were even prescribed. So that may not mean anything.

Im on cefdinir/omnicef...and Tindamax...and Biaxin...all at the same time. Tricky to take multiple abx at the same time. Good thing my LLMD has me on plenty of probiotics and other supplements. (2 weeks and doing better...)

My family was treated the with the same mix of doxy and Omnicef. I suspect it's the same LLMD, since there is only one in Rhode Island.
After 9 months I changed docs and am now on Biaxin and Plaquenil.
I made lots of progress on the doxy and Omnicef.
My insurance company would not pay for a 30 day supply of Omnicef, only a 10 day supply so it was very pricey for us since all three of us were taking it.

We're lucky, our insurance is covering the meds, no problem.
If you're not seeing a RI doctor anymore, what state do you go to? Conneticut, Massachusetts?
We caught this early on we think, the tick bite was still obvious, w/ the rash. So it was diagnosed early. Were you diagnosed early too?

Hi, I am from RI too and suspect that we went to the same doctor. I was put on azithromycin today along with omnicef (cefdinir). I was bitten about two years ago at Ninigret in Charlestown RI. For two years I have explained my symptoms away figuring they were from age, exercise,etc. The doc set that straight today. Two years wasted, have nobody to blame but myself. Do you see Dr. G?

I am on azithromycin for the summer months since we are outdoors a lot. Doxy can result in sun sensitivity. I will probably do your combo after the summer months. Did you go to a doc in RI?

I heard they have a new Lyme clinic, but you need a doctor referral to get in.
